EV general discussion

Whats the summary to save us watching a video with a click bait title and thumbnail?

Electric cars are bad for the environment and cost more than a diesel to run if you charge at ionity for 85p kw. A Porsche battery costs £33k and ionic 5’s are plastic underneath.

Thats about it :-)

Sure but you'd do niether of those things in reality.

How much is a new engine for a Porcshe Panamera? Probably not far of the same if fitted at a Porcshe dealer...

Running costs are probably not that far off either given its a 20mpg petrol....

You missed "EVs are bad because no engine, and all batteries use cobalt, the mining of which kills 99% of Congolese children every day (also please ignore the fact it's also used in petrol production)"

Honestly, I get that EVs aren't perfect, but the straw clutching to try and make out they're worse than they are is just embarrassing

Now strap it to a rocket and and negate all your potential carbon footprint.

@tamzzy - a BMW and a Tesla? Your neighbours are probably concerned for their borders :D

Sadly the bimmer went today :(
Brought it for a run last night though, just before I cancelled the insurance.
I hate to say it but the Tesla is a whole different kettle of fish and in a better way too. I'll miss the burbles and pops of the B58 engine of the bimmer though...

Well, your neighbours are probably breathing a sigh of relief and removing their investment into fortifications.

My wife is pushing for full electric and admittedly they are fun to drive with weight distributed coupled with acceleration.

And their ear plugs too

Always started with a thunderous boom when I leave for work at 0645 lol
Straight-piped modded exhaust and all that :D

Now a silent car...

Drift it around the ICU - you'll revive more patients.

*Although, you may kill a couple in the cardiac unit.

I can appreciate this, the electrics lack soul - but again the balance and acceleration is fun. They're the equivalent of a blank expression yet still somehow manage to answer all that you ask of it...

Took the OH out to look at small/medium SUV BEVs, 2-4 years old.

She liked the look of the Vauxhall Mokka but acknowledged the poor battery range and questionable infotainment system.

She liked the interior of the Kia e niro but not the exterior.

She likes the exterior looks of the Hyundai Kona, and the drive, but the interior is not as nice as the interior of the e niro.

She likes the interior of the Kona in Ultimate trim, but on the used market it looks like they command a 1500 - 2k premium over other specs, plus older higher mileage Ultimate models are listed at a higher price.

I'm trying to find out if I can get her into a newer lower mileage model with a lower spec than ultimate that she still likes. She won't use HUD anyway, and heated rear seats wont get used.

It just needs to look nice inside :)

Please can someone point me to where I can find out a list of the trim levels and what they include?

My googling is weak and I keep getting directed to the newer Kona or just what is for sale, rather than a comparison of how the trim levels differ.

I always used to enjoy the odd very early morning run to work in the dark and quiet with no music playing in the car but since moving to electric I'm starting to spend quite a lot of time with no music or anything on just listening to the gentle spaceship wooshing sounds, am I going a bit nuts?
