Not really vapourware insofar as they haven’t announced it. Some of us are old enough to remember Duke Nukem Forever being announced in 1997 and being a running joke for over a decade.

The game had effectively been scrapped and rewritten two, perhaps three times as graphics advanced so much during its prolonged gestation that it would've looked terrible if released. To an extent I fear the same for Star Citizen, it's taking so long.
 
Didnt Duke Nuken Forever finally get release as Gearbox acquired 3D Realms or something along those lines they essentially thought "**** it" and released what there was of a game.

I do kinda wish we got another Duke game, boomer shooters seem pretty popular and I wanna boot a pigcop in the face and throw cash at strippers again!

One of the issues was they hit the limits of the idtech2 engine especially when it comes to large open areas and while they can be worked around and/or newer technologies can be bolted on to catch up with newer engines it is non-trivial to accommodate at the higher feature levels of implementing gameplay mechanics and graphic design, etc. where those developers are still having to have knowledge of what the engine is doing unlike newer engines where what is going on at engine level is more invisible to higher level designers. Which probably made it a mess even to rebuild the game in a newer engine like Unreal Engine short of basically redeveloping it from scratch.
 
Valve should have pulled a Star citizen and milked ep3.
More chance of a government releasing top secret {insert conspiracy of your choice here} files.

Do as I do, forget about it, move on and if it is ever released you can have a Uber Nostalgic and sincere moment of joy.

After hearing Half Life Alyx was the VR GOAT and finally playing it this year and loving it and Jeff, I've got faith that Value could release something special if they choose to.
