What film did you watch last night?

Not sure it counts but we went to the theatre to watched 2:22 last night.

It was a ghost story written by Danny Robins. It was entertaining enough but we kind of guessed 'the twist' about 2/3 the way through. The characters were OK but the script felt a bit amateurish and the 2nd half felt really rushed.

Glad to have go see it but it's not something I'd watch again. Solid 6/10 but an entertaining and fun evening. We're actually going to another event of his but that's more of him just talking on stage rather than a play.

From Dusk 'til Dawn.

No many how many great vampire movies have come out over the last 20 years - and there have been a few - this is practically welded to my top 5.
If it had been a newer film then I'd have said calling it a vampire film was a spoiler.

First time I watched it, I had no idea what it was about. Needless to say I was surprised by how it turned out. Loved it.

The Toxic Avenger (on Shudder)

A tongue in cheek 80’s gore-fest about a dorky teen that gains crime fighting powers.

I really liked the tone of this, it felt like they had a LOT of fun making it… so many weird little moments and characters that last for barely seconds and didn’t need to exist. They were clearly on a budget too as the audio quality was non-existent at points, especially when they are talking around a swimming pool… one for subtitles!

There is a very callous death early on in this which was honestly pretty shocking, even for my hardened skin. Add in a service dog being shot for the lols and Hitler jokes… yeah, it’s pretty raw and knowingly tasteless. That’s half the point, I guess. Still, these moments were balanced out well with the absurdity and I laughed a lot.

7/10 - low brow, gross, and surprisingly charming.

A spoiler is a bit of a stretch, considering every synopsis states the entire plot

From Dusk Till Dawn: Directed by Robert Rodriguez. With George Clooney, Quentin Tarantino, Harvey Keitel, Juliette Lewis. Two criminals and their hostages unknowingly seek temporary refuge in a truck stop populated by vampires, with chaotic results.

After kidnapping a father and his two kids, the Gecko brothers head south to a seedy Mexican bar to hide out in safety, unaware of its notorious vampire clientele.

A mixed genre film that combines a hostage drama with a vampire gore-fest, written by Quentin Tarantino and directed by Robert Rodriguez.

From Dusk till Dawn is a 1996 American action horror film directed by Robert Rodriguez and written by Quentin Tarantino from a concept and story by Robert Kurtzman. Starring Harvey Keitel, George Clooney, Tarantino, Ernest Liu, and Juliette Lewis, the plot follows a pair of American criminal brothers, who take a family as hostages to cross into Mexico, but ultimately find themselves trapped in a saloon, defending against a horde of vampires.

The poster/box art, even has a major emphasis on bats, which is a big giveaway, considering it's classed as a horror film... Also in the 2nd poster, Danny is clearly a monster/vampire lol.

Flight of the Phoenix 2004

Random pick, I think.... I may have seen very short bits of this once before.

Had some good music in it, about the only thing going for it. Crash scene was awful, even for 2004, I should have just binned it off there. Apparently it's a remake of a 1965 movie although I've never seen it, people say it's better. 2 hours long nearly as well.

Sometimes you can get lucky on a random pick, not today.

3/10
I've seen both but don't really remember them very well. Jimmy Stewart and big ensemble cast grace the original.

I do remember the crash sequence in the remake having a gloriously over the top surround mix for anyone with a multi-channel setup. Other than that I don't recall much else, which probably says enough :)

The Salt Path - 7/10

Engaging drama with very good performances from the 2 leads and some great cinematography, you could almost smell the sea air!

Real Steel.
Watched this blind.
It was Rocky but with giant human controlled robots.
Completely predictable, but an easy, entertaining watch.
7/10.

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly -

4k remaster recently released by ArrowVideo. 1966 it was originally released so the film remaster is pretty impressive all things considered, the audio ( DTS-HD MA ) is loud and proud and the score is as good as it gets for western. Blockbuster movie, big names, big film.

The Killer

I remember John Woo films were the big thing back in the late 80s early 90s, there was that Cage & Travolta Hollywood job. The Killers was enjoyable if a little over theatrical for my tastes these days.

End of the day plan is to have a few lagers, fart about on the PC and have Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait on in the background, relax with some Mogwai.

Nice review, that's a great combination of 2 completely different films, I like your style :)
Judging by the latter half, you've enjoyed said lagers ;) :P Hence the excitable formatting :P

Was this in preparation for seeing the Remake ?

Last night this way Re-Animator
7/10

Much more enjoyable than I remember. I suspect I may have seen the third film first !

Tonight's horror comedy was Cooties - 5.5/10

Elijah Woods and a bunch of actors where you'll go "Oh it's x from y!" star in a zombie film with zombie kids. It's got some funny moments but the story is very bog standard zombie fare once you get past the fact it is children. Unfortunately they leaned more into the horror not the comedy in the second half and it quickly becomes a pretty tepid zombie film.

Bring Her Back - **** me that was disturbing.

A simple story, but thoroughly enjoyed that. Both creepy and disturbing, not many movies i have had to look away from!
