New Anno - Anno 117 Pax Romana

Think I might wait for the third complete edition before jumping in. Though that all depends on if I give in or not.......

Besides, there's a fair amount I've not done on 1800 that I'd like to, plus the asia mod (whatever it was called) so it's not like I can't get my Anno fix if I need it.

Dam this looks good played an old Anno forgot the title now but definitely love all things Roman so will be giving this a blast.

Anno 1800 has been a superb game, on so many levels. Perhaps time to get back into that, this time with mods.

I am not sure how "different" this 117 will be, hoping for more than 1800 in a Roman skin.
It might have been good to see curved roads being possible, appreciating how optimal it can be to build grid like, but that style is somewhat "meh" and there can be other games that allow free style building and placements of roads and buildings beyond just a grid.

I've seen a few youtubers have been given access to it, torn over whether to watch them or just wait for the release and experience it myself. Leaning towards the latter at the moment.

Never seen the appeal of watching a talking head playing a game I intend to buy and play myself.

Different strokes different folks, I guess.

Never played Anno before - and it's currently on offer - but the options are BAFFLING - Can someone tell me whats the best purchase? A bundle would be ideal, but it seems the bundles are missing stuff so im clueless.

Those with great Anno knowledge would be appreciated - top 3 best buys please?

I haven't played for a while but the Gold edition is the best option, or if cheaper standard then Season pass 1/2/3/4

I bought Anno 1800 for better half 3+ years ago, because she enjoyed Anno 1400 and perhaps some other variants.

But she hasn't played it once as far as I'm aware, because like me, long covid has changed her ability to enjoy some game types she enjoyed pre 2020.

I'm just debating whether to buy it on release or whether to wait - these days so many games drop in price within a month or two of release and I could happily wait until Christmas

Better to wait these days, it's a rarity that a game gets released without needing multiple patches.

And as you say, you can usually get it cheaper two or three months on.

Anno 1800 now has
  • the base game
  • the deluxe stuff (available upon initial release IIRC)
  • 4 seasons worth of dlc
  • cosmetic stuff
The base game give you access to
  • the old world
  • the new world
S1 gives you a new building, and 2 new areas, the arctic, and cape trelawney (this is effectively another "old world" zone with one massive island and several normal islands)
S2 introdices another new building and some new mechanics, and a new area Embeza (africa)
S3 introdices more mechanics and buildings
S4 introduces new airships, mechanics, and a new population tier in the new world (it also changes the new world a bit, but I think those changes are there for people who don't own the DLC. I could be mistaken though)

Cosmetic packs - these are entirely cosmetic.

The different versions are explained here

Unless things have changed, Ubi normally shaft people who buy things bit by bit. Not sure how it works on Steam though. Having said that, if you've never played Anno before, the £5 for just the base game isn't bad price just to try - though it's currently on Gamepass if you have that!

I'd probably be looking towards the Year 5 Gold Edition (AFAIK all gameplay DLC), I can't see the base + all the season passes being cheaper. Steam lists each season pass seperately, both cosmetic packs seperately, and then lists each individual thing on it's own for sale. Which is why the list is pretty long.

If you're a sucker for cosmetic stuff, then the Annoversary edition will have everything AFAIK. (all gameplay DLC and cosmetic DLC)

Steam is currently cheaper than ubisoft from what I can tell, the Y5GE is just under £30.

The bundles seem to be some sort of weird mix of the base game and some dlc. IMHO, DO NOT buy them.

Efficiency bundle give you ONE new area - Cape Trelawney, I'd just pay the £2 or so extra and get the gold edition with everything in that pack plus all the other non cosmetic stuff

The industrial immersion bundle gives you ONE new area - the arctic, and then it gives you 2 other dlc and 3 cosmetic DLCs. You won't get the cosmetic DLC in the gold edition, but you'll get the other 2.

Taunting me with a 1 hour demo...I ended up sticking hundreds and hundreds of hours into anno1800 and now I only have 1 hour to muck about in Anno117. Its not so much a teaser as a te.
