The game

Brought to you by many of the team responsible for GTR/NFS Shift/Project Cars and headed up by Ian Bell, now under the moniker of Straight 4 Studios, comes yet another racing simulator that that the community of sim racers has been crying/not crying out for* :p
Will it be any good, who knows? But a few lucky influencers attended a recent unveiling to bring you their honest/dishonest* first impressions.

Did I enjoy Project CARS1 & 2 - yes. Am I looking forward to this, yes provided it has good VR support. Other points of interest, full release day one although caveated by mention already of season passes and DLC  Unknowns, what the AI will be like for those who enjoy single player. It wasn't great in Project CARS, a large part of which I suspect was down the the simplified physics model they used, and from the one interview I've seen touch on this with the new lead physics programmer (in the Overtake video) I'm remaining septical for now.

Another new driving game? I never got into PCARS 1 but I heard PCARS 2 wasn't that good a follow-up or have I got that wrong? Would be interested to see what its USP is compared to Forza Motorsport/GT and even PCARS, rFactor etc.

^Project CARS2 was more than decent but had a very wide variety of content which meant it did suffer from a little from being a 'jack of all trades master of none'. Looks like they are taking a more focused route this time so hopefully that will pay dividends.

Look at this, a rare sighting of a career mode in a simulation focused racing game :p

Pick your starting level (budget) from one of several pre-sets and you too can make yourself broke racing expensive motor cars. Or maybe you'll scrape together just enough money along the way to keep the dream alive:

Ian Bell involved = Won't be a proper sim and will promise a lot and fall way short

Id expect maybe 2 or 3 cars with half decent physics and then the other 100 or so cars being slop... like Project Cars !

I saw a video about this yesterday, and I had to wonder if this has a chance at all. Does the market have space for another title right now?
Sounds silly to say to some, maybe, but I know it's not something I'm remotely considering.

Time will tell, PMR seems a bit more Simcade which is more what I enjoy. There does appear to be quite a few upcoming racing games Rennsport, Endurance Motorsport, Assetto Evo updates to choose from.

Agreed.

The potential saving grace for this could be the career mode which almost no other sim title has. Though IMO it has to back it up with some decent physics which sadly the PC franchise is hit and miss.

It's insane to me that no-one has made something with a decent career mode on PC.
The AMS2 greyed out option has almost become a giant middle finger at this stage. :'D

Slightly off topic question, is the Ian Bell involved in this the same Ian Bell who made the original Elite with David Braben back in the day?

It looks good but it seems to be what does this as over some already really good racing games, ACC,iracing etc. mostly the same tracks and cars etc. feel the same about several racing games recently

I liked ACC as it focused on one type of teaching and I think did it well. But I suspect I may still watch and add it to my library anyway if good and not too expensive
