BMW and M Power Owners

Yea no grumbles with the M5. I don't need a car that large and the overriding reason for purchase was I've always loved saloon cars, owned many of them and wanted to own and experience the ultimate Super Saloon that is the M5 and "tick" the V8 box off too.

I think it's largely the proposition/temptation of "getting out" of the M5 with minimal depreciation having not spent any money on tyres, brakes etc. just stuck fuel in it and driven it - [it was purchased Used Approved so the few bits that needed doing were done under Warranty] and trying something new.

Also conscious the depreciation curve over the next 10,000 miles will likely be steeper - although being honest, I'd not even thought of this until I received the call and checked how much it was still worth. I didn't purchase it worrying about future value but it is indeed a bonus its kept it.

On the flip-side. The E63 does not interest me [the engine certainly does, but the not the car/shape itself]. The new C63 would be more than I want to spend and the previous gen is now quite dated.

The Audi RS range has again never got me particularly excited; I "respect" what they are and their capability but I've never thought "I'd love one of those".

Which really just leaves me with an M4. I'll give one a test drive. I'll think about it over the weekend...

or I'll just stick with the M5!
Lexus ISF/GSF? Mustang? Giulia Quad?

Can anyone help me understand the entertainment package addon? It seems jut access to video services and gaming? I don’t want the gaming and I have a personal esim for the video in the back anyway, I assume I don’t get anything extra from the entertainment pack? BMW “genius” doesn’t know.

And it has a few weeks left so just curious.

Haha, I'm in a similar position. I've an F90 Comp, Had it from new so i've been spanked with depreciation. Just had my balloon payment letter and i'ts only £35k so I'll definitely be paying that.
BUT
I think its time to change!
The car is fantastic and not put a foot wrong. Just done the best part of 5k miles round Europe which has tipped me just over the 30k mark in 4 years. Its probably worth well north of £50k still.
I wouldn't hesitate going for the new one but in Tourer (G99) guise if I hadn't had the F90, Just seems theyve lowered some of the quality. Plus even though BMW have said they wont do a comp version. I bet they either do or a rename version

It still turns heads and I still love getting beeps and waves from people that know what it is. And it still turned heads in Puerto Banus. Suppose thats because there were 50 G wagons and 90 Lambo's. Only saw 1 other M5 and that was a new Tourer at a toll booth in Spain... So the F90 Comp is still pretty rare.

I was looking at enabling the remote 360 camera the other day for security and it said I had to enable data privacy in the car first, so while I was at the Eastern European car wash, I looked through the data privacy settings and it made me pause because I had to enable it all. Does everyone have everything enabled? Don’t know if I’m just being paranoid but I don’t like the idea.

Test drove an M850i convertible today.

It’s a very nice, luxurious cruiser, but my goodness is it quick. I didn’t have the opportunity to play around it at all, and on NSL dual carriageway I could get to license losing speed so quickly. Didn’t find it fun at all. Sounded brilliant though!

Oh, and averaged 12.4 MPG with 60% of the journey behind a tractor :D

Also, 340i is now up for sale. If anyone has considered getting one, give me a shout :-)

Hooligan. ;) I haven’t heard an M850i before but I doubt it sounds much different to an M8 and it’s one of the things I find lacking compared to my AMG I used to have. I would love to fit an Akrapovic to mine but don’t want the hassle should I need to have any warranty work done and they use that to wriggle out of it

The 12.4 was genuinely just pootling around. I had 2 opportunities to put my foot down and it was over before I could think about it.

The 850i sounds quite different to the M5 at least, as I’d been to see one as well (started but not driven) - bit throatier and more burbles. Personally felt it (850i) was better sounding.

Will go and check out a C63. Problem is they’re rare as heck in convertible form and LCI.

Thats just weird as mine and the M5 before it was nowhere near as bad as that on fuel. Of course you could get that and less if you were gunning it everywhere but just pootling about, seems low

Same. I just checked my long term average and it’s 19.3, so you must be a maniac :D

Genuinely not at all, I was sat behind a tractor doing 25 for 60% of the journey

Couple of NSL roads but otherwise just normal traffic and town driving. Perhaps because the engine was cold? Had the roof down too.

I’m just messing with you. My average is 19.3 though

How is the (M)8? Is it noticeably bigger than the F90 M5 when driving around? It looks like a barge on the roads.. does it feel like one?

It’s obviously a heavy car but it doesn’t feel any worse than the M5, it actually feels better to me due to it being lower than an M5. It’s wider which down a narrow country lane can be a bit of a concern though.

Overall I love it and prefer it although it’s not without its faults which I’ve mentioned before, namely having worse front seats than the M5 which on a flagship product is ridiculous.

Have you considered the G87 M2 LCI, especially if you can do without proper rear seat room? Divisive looks I guess but they look much better in the flesh, and they don't have 'that' front end which the M4 does.

Stupidly quick, great to drive and nice inside. You also have the CS which from what I hear are still available to buy if you have a relationship with a dealer (and have deep pockets).

How do I figure out what service is required on a BMW?

The iDrive just says service required but gives me no context as to what's needed.

Called BMW and they're saying spark plugs are due, but info I can find online says 60k miles - car had them done 4 years ago and it's only done 5k miles since then.

Spark plugs are every other oil service so every 4 years maximum. You can work out if they need doing because if the history doesn't include them in the last oil service they are due in the next.

What's the opinion on the G20/G21 3 Series LCI? Is it worth making sure you got an LCI model, is it not too much different? I know the inside looks a bit nicer on the LCI, with the disadvantage of moving to touchscreen controls for climate.

I'm being a typical man and planning the next car even though it'll be 18 months away :D

I don't think the interior does look better - the interior wasn't designed originally to have that massive touch screen and adding it later makes it look like it was just stuck on. I much preferred the original which is why I went for a 2021 car. It's the perfect blend of modern technology but with things like proper buttons as well.

330i is the sweet spot too IMO having owned a 320d and had a 320i for a while.

330i isn’t much more than a 320i, but same torque as a 320d which is perfect.

330d commands too much of a premium and isn’t worth it.

M340i is nice but wouldn’t pay 10k more for one - the engine isn’t as noticeable in a G20 as the F30 as it’s quite a quiet cabin.

On the contrary the 330d or the M340i/M340d are the ones to get because a good BMW saloon should have a 6 cylinder engine not a 4 cylinder engine ;)
