From the Guardian article:
"There have been more than 140 shootings reported in elementary and secondary schools in 2025 thus far, according to the K-12 School Shooting Database."
It's a grave failing of democracy that nothing is getting done about this.
A large number of these are due to things like parents leaving unsecured firearms around, etc. (something the US does seem to slowly be coming around to prosecuting but it doesn't have enough momentum to have much impact on prevention in the first place).
While there is a larger percentage of the US population who are for stricter gun controls than those who oppose it, there isn't the support there for the kind of changes required to make a meaningful difference so in that respect it isn't a failing of democracy - there are a lot of people who own guns in the US for home defence and wildlife reasons and so on.
