Major Airlines Banning the use of battery packs on flights.

Not read all the other replies so not sure if this has been responded to.

So how do you travel with one then? I don't use mine on the plane, but do sometimes at the destination. And you can't check them in either, so where do they go?

First great western have 3 Pin UK sockets under the seats and also USB sockets (although i cant remember what type of USB they have, as usually i just plug my UK plug in) . Although granted you wouldnt be able to get that on airlines.


Its annoying as on aircraft they "assume" that the one end of the cable that usually plugs in to your 3 pin plug is type USB-A and the other end which goes in to your device is the spepcific type (be it iphone type or USB C)

However on my charger the end that goes in to my UK plug and the end that goes in to my device is USB-C at both ends.

Oh you’re right. Yes, my train has 2x 3 Pin sockets as well. I must be going crazy because I ride that infernal thing 8 times a week.

Hmmmm water on a Li-Ion fire ? Sure. I assumed that they just have a secure fireprrof box for chucking the offending batt pack into.

Also, can nobody live without their phone and/or a usb charger thesedays, even for a few hours ? Is it really that difficult ? wow.

Short haul, I agree.

If you've flown to NZ or Aus you may need some power but a usb should be enough for anybody really.

Then again business class usually has something good to watch before you have a lie down :)

I don't know why they needed it, but that's what they were asking for. There's a YouTube vid of the incident knocking about which shows them collecting the bottles from people. From what I could see online it might have just been to help quell some of the heat from the battery until the reaction finishes.

I don’t, I use a charger I plug in
 
Yeah been on a few flights that said no charging.
Its fine on short haul as battery will last. But on long haul it can be a pain

you take them in carry on but can't use them on the flight
 
was on a 777 2 weeks ago had usb-c in the seat and charged my iPad Pro throughout the 14h

I didn’t need to use my battery packs.

I’d still like to take one or two, probably just the smaller one that uses MagSafe to charge the iPhone.
 
I've flown to Hong Kong/Japan many times without the need to use any battery packs because there is a USB socket on board. But my iPad/Macbook these days has enough battery to last the journey on 1 charge quite easily between eating, taking a nap, watching in flight movie or just listening to music.

The only time I actually used an onboard battery was about 2 years ago going to Morocco and the plane between Paris and Rabat didn't have a charging socket.
 
Issue for me will be if airlines stop you taking a battery bank in a cabin bag. I do short break/haul flights with no checked in baggage and I need the bank when I am away.

Same here. I rarely fly long haul but will do loads of short haul flights and always use a battery pack when I'm out and about in the cities I'm visiting
