EV general discussion

Can’t you share an example rather than make people search.

Yes Tesla well known for chewing ball joints and bushes. Think it’s a annual job to replace on some based on Cleevly experience

That puma is great value really. £230 a month with 1month initial payment on 8k miles.

Have you guys watched Jay Em's new video on the E-golf? He makes some very interesting points about BEVs that I think I agree with. It's worth a watch.

What does he say that you agree with ?

I rather form my own views than repeat YouTube videos

23 mins and the title covered his summary I assume? Haven’t watched but for value I thought I’d take the few seconds to help with a link.

That’s quite the statement “we” from the Psychedelic couch potato. I assume no law suits were created or cars written off in this one?

What points does he make that you agree with? A lot of it sounds badly researched, and telling people not to care about range is a waste of time, I have asked many people to find out how many times they'd have to charge a car in a week, only to be told, "Ah, but I drive to aunty Mabel's once every 9 months so would have to stop and charge and I can possibly delay my life for 45 minutes once every 9 months" He's also asking to buy cars they need not what they want, so literally 90% of the cars currently being sold regardless of BEV or ICE wouldn't be sold. So again what points are you agreeing with, the ones he makes about people buying totally unsuitable cars, pollution, cost, range, something else as it was a jack of all trades video.

This guy has two reviews on the E92 M3 several year apart. Amazing contrast. I find his opinions to be like a belly button

Edit. Just look at the curtains he’s wearing with yellow trainers…

I think the fact that in the video there were black bins outside of some houses, so obviously it was bin day, that was more interesting...:D

Just ordered an EV through the work SSS. Long Range Xpeng G6 for £360 a month including servicing, tyres, insurance and breakdown cover. Compared to my current BMW 530e with finance of £328+£65 insurance +£17.06 tax it is already cheaper, before taking into account cheap overnight charging and the cost of servicing and tyres.

Presume it is ultra cheap because of the facelift model due next year.

That BEVs shouldn't be the only answer. I will be replacing our family car with a BEV when we change it but that's because it suits me and the journeys we do as a family. If a BEV doesn't suit then there shouldn't be a drive to force people to have them to the exclusion of other options.
He also says that he would favour a drive for smaller cars like Japan do. I think this is a good idea. Low power, highly efficient Kei cars that are inexpensive.

And that’s why you bought a V8

Ohme Epod installed today and it took less than a week from ordering.

I ordered it via the Ohme website last Wednesday evening and submitted photos. Pro EV contacted me the next day and booked it for today.

Engineer arrived today and did a very neat installation. £921 including a staff discount from my employer.

Just need an EV now!

I agree in principal that the effects may be negligible but from what I see in most evidence, the biggest effect on EV battery SoH isn't age, it’s the number of recharge cycles it has done (dictated by mileage).

Age on batteries like this is going to be hugely hit and miss - so much depends on the environment conditions (and the maintained state of charge) - a constant ~20C and they could do 20 years easily before any significant deterioration, on the other hand even a week at extreme temperatures (over 45C or below -15C) could see the battery dead in a year. A few weeks of even -4C, especially if charging when that cold, could see the battery only lasting 2-5 years.

Theres countries that hit those temps -4 a lot. Do EVs only last 2 years in those countries?
