Cronos: The New Dawn

Another title where I am glad that I made the decision to give up my 4k monitor to go back to ultrawide@1440. My time with 4k looked nice but it just wasnt worth the fps loss for me. 1440 gaming is still my sweetspot.

Yup for a game like this where FOV is locked and over shoulder, 21.9/uw absolutely trounces 16.9 displays. Can't wait till I get back to it

Well I am very much enjoying this! It's like a mix between dead space, callisto and resident evil with a stranger things vibe about it. Some of the mechanics are really nice. Performance is great too, only had maybe 3-4 moments of UE 5 shader stutter but been a smooth 160+ fps for the majority of the time  Visuals with glorious RT and HDR 1000 on an oled are incredible too.

Sooo.... Dead Callisto Evil Things. :)

Before buying double check your steam DLC section for the base game just in case you already have it lol.

I will be jumping in later today to get my RTX whip cracking.

Wrong thread? :p

I refunded the deluxe version after I beta tested it, will continue tomorrow with the cdkeys copy at £35

Enjoying this so far, only played about 90 minutes with a PS5 controller.

Haven't had any frame drops, well if you count literally 3-4FPS on a couple of parts, that was literally it...

Stutter wise, I'll try and explain this as best as I can... With the Dead Space remake, every time you went into a new part of the map, or through doors with micro loading sections, you'd get a stutter. With this game, you seem to get a quick small stutter upon starting an entire level, and then not again till you're done with the entire level, so you could take it as a quick bit of loading between levels, versus having a loading screen; if that makes sense?

In 90 minutes, I've only seen it happen 3 times, which would be 3 'level' like areas, versus segments of the same level/map.
So in all honesty, I'm ok with that.

It does make me wonder if all these people 'reviewing' games early, are playing unfinished versions sent early on with an embargo?
I also wonder whether people streaming/recording their gameplay introduces stutters/hitching? Along with crap running in the background on startup etc?

It didn't take very long to do the shader compile neither. When you die, you're quickly put back into the action, so I'll take that over massive loading screens breaking the immersion and STALKER2 ridiculous shader compile times each time you start the game.

Performance wise, I noticed it only has FSR3.1. I'm using 4K DLSS with frame generation, motion blur and cromatic ambberation off (really didn't like CA on this and motion blur can always **** off!) high textures, low shadows, medium everything else IIRC, with DLSS set to balanced, easily hits 60FPS with a 4070 - good enough for me for a slow paced single player game with emphasis on taking your time and taking in the eye candy. This game definitely wouldn't benefit what so ever from triple figure FPS. You cant even quick turn, jump, side step, or duck - well not so far in the first 90 minutes.

Gameplay wise, it's Dead Space/Callisto, which I love, so more of it in any shape or form, pleases me easily. I am one of the few that actually liked Callisto and it's DLC, as I took it for what it was, another Dead Space type fork - so take this for that, and I'm sure anyone picking it up for cheap elsewhere for a key, will like it, bar @TNA as it's still £2.99 over his £35 payment wall :P
