Cronos: The New Dawn

Amazing Steam.

I put up a little steam review from my hour playing the early access a moment ago.

There you go @TNA, your beta test feedback is done!

My recommendation for a decent experience (excluding shader stuttering) is to play using a DualSense controller, have at least a 4090, because the fps drops are otherwise going to be noticeable, and make use of frame gen, even 2x is more than enough. FG is implemented well, with only the classical UE5 minor ghosting in some situations like when your character puts the gun away and the lighting on it fades away as a faint trail in the darkness.

Native 4K

How cute, it thinks it is path tracing with that fps, it isn't even hardware ray tracing lol.

Looks like overclocked 5080 beats the 4090 by about 10-14 fps in this.

And MFG, no option to pick x3 or x4 so will need to be done in nvcp:

Videos done, time to play this in hdr the way it's meant to be played.

You have UE5 internal AA turned off, that would explain the fps variance :p

I will be playing it on the 5th when my cdkeys edition releases

Loaded :p (you just know that like X and Twitter, everyone is going to still call it cdkeys for years :D)

Surely AA is/should be disabled when using dlss/upscaling as it is aa in its own upscaling tech. Some games, it won't grey/out disable but is disabled in itself.

HDR completely transforms this games visuals once again, looked a bit bland/flat without it, now, looks like a proper next gen title.

Normally internal UE AA is always on with no option to turn it off, in this game it might be the first instance I can recall where an option is given. I just left it on as that was the default for the Epic settings preset. Probably do want to turn it off then manually yeah if DLSS is being used and reclaim some lost fps.

Still doesn't fix the engine issues though.

Played a bit more tonight, it’s pretty tense as ammo etc is so limited. Seems like headshots are the thing, shooting in the knees like dead space don’t do anything.

I can see why it’s compared to dead space but in terms of gameplay I think I’m leaning more towards resident evil.

Also at times the sound track has a stranger things vibe.

Either way, really good. Just need to finish it before Borderlands 4 release.

This looks really promising. Watched some gameplay on youtube (thankfully there's much less annoying ones than radbrad) but didn't want to watch too much in case of spoilers. Looking forward to being able to try my 4070S on this.

HDR looks to be half-broken, the levels are not right as multiple people across [H] and Steam perf thread are saying as such.

Edit* Here is a comparison against Indiana Jones:

Cronos with max settings, RT enabled with Native 4K TAA:

Indiana Jones with Path tracing enabled with native 4K DLAA:

UE5 really is a bit of a dog isn't it?

Damn that's awful lol, and you can only add 40% on top to get the 5090's performance - so from 27fps to 37fps, still *******

You would need a GPU that is 60% faster than a 5090 to run the game at 60fps at those settings and optimization

Without any further optimisation and just a GPU upgrade you'd be brute forcing those extra frames, at that point what would even be the point lol.

The Devs just need to slap their executives the moment one of them pipes up demanding a firm release date even though the game isn't optimised yet instead of spending weeks and months patching to fix what should have been fixed before launch.

Will pick it up on humble choice like I did with Callisto. Will run silky smooth by then
