New Anno - Anno 117 Pax Romana

Ah that sucks, just started downloading but didn't realise it was 1 hr limited

I'm hoping perhaps I can find a way of doing it twice via Ubi and Steam

Wow, performance in the demo is pretty dire. Even with DLSS on and RT off, I can barely hit 60fps @ 3440x1440 with my 5070TI with the graphics at max

Edit: performance is actually improving the more I play, up at 70fps with RT on now. Maybe it needing to cache or something. Turning on vsync has made it feel a lot better too

Thats my hour up, after overcoming the early performance issues and having it run better, got to say its a beautiful looking game, plays very similarly to Anno1800, being able to build diagonally for the first time is great and yup, can see myself losing hundreds of hours in this. If you liked Anno1800, you'll like this

Still playing, but yeh this!

I think this will be better than Anno 1800 for me. Love Roman history!

Understanding that I am running at 4k, with a 4080, the initial impressions are, with GPU around 99% load, this is going to get demanding at anything other than a small town.....! Albeit the graphics are maxed, iirc.

It seems, so far anyway, that adding SM, Smooth Motion, helped to improve the performance. So far, until NVidia support it, this was done by manually adding the games exe to the list of games in the Nvidia app, and then enable Smooth Motion. Using the Nvidia overlay in the game shows it is enabled.

I wish it was possible to select which monitor to use when the game is launched.

Thats some beastly requirements :)

Anno_117_Pax_Romana_PcSpecs_EN.jpg

That's some odd specs. 1080p60 @ medium - 3070/6800XT, 1440p60 @ high - 3060Ti or 6700XT? I can't imagine the ram or cpu doing anything. I feel like there might be some errors.

Not surprised by 32gb requirement, I've seen my pc hit >20gb on 1800. Possibly over 30.

Yeah I'm not overly surprised. Anno 1800 is the only game that's directly caused me to upgrade my rig - I realised I was running into the pagefile with 16GB memory.

Even now, with a 3700X and 6800 it feels like it's struggling a bit at times for 4K, but it does well enough.

The demo seemed to perform alright, but I can imagine that especially as DLC comes out it will push my machine very hard.

Still baffles me why game developers won't accept 60fps as the standard benchmark. It would have been much easier to set all those resolution statements with the same 60fps target to be much more realistic.

In short, those rec specs are absolute trash and should be ignored. They mean nothing other than, 'the game will run like ****'.

I think these days, adopting a default approach of "this game is going to run like ****" , is a sensible way to approach every new game. That way it can only ever meet your expectations or surprise you by exceeding them

I saved up and upgraded from a 3090 to a 5090 and frankly, I still start every new game expecting it to look like and/or run like ****. It's truly depressing the state of most games these days and that a GPU that is absolute overkill (even at 4k gaming for 90% of titles) struggles to run modern games, most of the time I dream of 80fps, let alone 120fps... Clearly something is wrong in the industry.

Yup, my 5070TI just about reached 70fps @3440x1440 on the Anno117 demo with DLSS on, I'm hoping performance will be better with the full game rather than the demo

I'll attempt to hold off. Not sure my 11600k and 3060ti will like it, but after the multiple complete editions of 1800, I'll probably aim to get what's the equivalent of the maybe a year 3/4 gold edition. Plus still got stuff to do on 1800.

I do intend to buy this, understanding that the countless DLC's and addons will be made available over time. But, at least they will be optional and add content and patches, typically, that help to fix things.
I do seem to have a soft spot for the Roman settings, like when playing the Total War games.
At this point I am not sure if I will save a tenner or so and pre order or just wait it out for a while, knowing that I still have games waiting to play.
Heck, I could still play a lot more of 1800 yet.
