*** HP Reverb G2 Owners Thread ***

I just can't bear the thought of going to a Meta Headset.

Doesn't seem like there is reasonable replacement for the G2 as far as I know for Sim Racing.

I thought everyone was aware that the Pimax Crystal Light is basically the de facto replacement for the G2?

I got one recently as an 'experiment', not expecting a lot (cancelled a Super order).......and it's very very good. For the price the PCL really can't be beaten.
I still want OLED, and a smaller form factor really, but going to wait for the next round. I have a PSVR2 (OLED) for the dark action type games that's also surprising ok supersampled and with reshade sharpening added.

I feel the same. I think I'll just hold off for a few more years until there's a significant leap forward in the technology.

Oasis Driver Steam store page is live now (not release yet).

Didn't realise it would be such an official thing with its own Steam store page, that's brilliant. The G2 was/ is a great headset that thoroughly deserves the support and longevity it's getting. **** Microsoft.

Was looking more into the Oasis driver and seems it can't use the BT receiver in the headset, you'll need to pair the controllers to another BT receiver. Luckily my motherboard came with BT so I can just pair them with that. Looking forward to giving it a go once it's out.

Thanks, that is good to know. Apparently it would be technically possible to support the built-in BT receiver, but more trouble that it is worth, compared to just using standardised Windows Bluetooth.

You have to do the controller pairing before "unlocking" the headset for Oasis.

Oasis driver now available:

Some great tips in the Troubleshooting Guide, including Clearing Environment Data to ensure invalid WMR data does not carry over.

All working perfectly after following the setup instructions. On the Reverb G2 v2 there is a known issue that the passthrough camera is rotated 90 degrees. This is on the fix list.

Oh snap! Super keen to give this a bash! Been using the Quest 3 but ugh just a pain with batteries and stuff for longer sessions. Be interesting to see how I cope going backwards in terms of resolution…

G2 resolution is higher than Q3 isn't it?

also it's display port so no compression

Yes but the lenses are nowhere near as good - very small sweet spot.

Also for controller based VR gaming the controllers are nowhere near as good. No capacitive touch and eat batteries. Not a problem for sims though.

Great audio though, the same as the Index.

sure..,. I agree. I wasn't saying the G2 is better than the quest 3. but specifically replying about the resolution. within the albeit limited sweet spot of the lenses the G2 is still a high image quality VR headset

as for the controller batteries. I bought some lithium 1.5v AA rechargable ones so that never bothered me. that said in terms of controller battery staying power... i still do not know what sorcery oculus used in the original touch controllers. they almost lasted forever and off a single aaa battery. the quest touch pro ones not as good for obvious reasons (but a very good controller otherwise)

not used the quest 3 standard ones however

The Oasis driver has had a few updates since release. Most notably for the Reverb G2:
  • There are manual calibration sliders now as some people were experiencing discomfort due to left/right misalignment.
  • The camera passthrough is now rotated correctly.
