Moving into the middle of nowhere (England or Wales)?

My mother in law did almost exactly that. She now lives in a cottage in the middle of a field, in the middle of nowhere.

Funnily enough, she got Fttp years before we did as well. Heating is oil, water is from a natural spring, waste is a pit. She has grid power and high speed internet.

Amazon / ocado all deliver still.

I'd suggest looking for properties in Northumberland.

I want to live in a small (one bed) house somewhere remote which is reasonably cheap (compared with Surrey). Ideally it would be a detached with a substantial gap between houses

A 1 bed detached house in the middle of nowhere without neighbours? I don't think those 3 things go together

You can get very cheap rent if you move to the north in remote areas and you can get very good internet if it isn't too remote. That might be a good option. You could probably get very cheap rent in certain other countries too. I assume cost of living is a key motivator to your proposed move. Do you need to live near any particular location?

There are loads of places like that around here, the only problem is if you are completely away from any form of neighbours you are a bit vulnerable to gyppos.

The Fens will have loads of houses like that, how many for rent? Now that's a different question. I live 2 miles from town one house 40 meters away then nothing for 1/2 mile with FTTP. No gas no sewage, so heating oil and septic tank. FTTP seems relatively common round here, probably a Government incentive

I'm pretty sure there aren't loads of 1 bed detached houses for rent without neighbours near by ANYWHERE lol

Yup, guess where I live lol.

There are at least 4-5 houses like that within a mile of here.

I like the idea but as said above it's actually good to have a few neighbours around.

I live in the last village of of south greater manchester, I cross the road and it's another shirer...
Houses are dead cheap in compassion to other places in greater manchester but the rent has gone up to £900 pcm which has forced some people to move out.

There's a 5 bedroom, 3 reception room house going for sale at offers above 350K. But the house it's in a right state, I think it used to be long to this wierd old man who used to stand in the middle of the road trying to talk to people, I'd upset him a few time by just jogging pass with headphones on...

Internet is fine, we have fibre to the premises... well I don't I'm still on ADSL but at 50gb..
Be warn;
when it rains heavy we can get flooded in...
sometime the sheeps escape and just walks down the village...
we have kids on dirt bikes every weekend...
boyracers on the "new" but it's been there for about 20 years bypass road.

our local tesco cat passed away the other week and it made head line news in the local paper.
The current talk when will the new adsa store open and if they will have a cat
... flags, lots of flags...

Direct trains to Manchester, Liverpool... easy access to the motorways... we used to have to pay 12p to cross the river but that's going up to a pound..

It's even cheaper in some of the villages in north greater manachester.

Plenty of places like that here in Lincolnshire. Lots of companies offering fttp and installing with their own cables. Youfibre and light speed to name a couple. I have 1gig up and down but can get 10gig if I want it.

Plenty of old small farm houses in the middle of nowhere too and cheap. 500 grand will get you something equivalent 2-3 million down south easily.

Some of the best weather in the summer and less than an hour to beautiful beaches. East Midlands airport is only 90 minutes away. Same for Hull ferries too if you fancy an overnight trip to the continent.

He wants to rent a one bedroom place in the middle of nowhere...

This is also my dream, but unfortunately completely unrealistic in this country. There is always someone around.

Drive into the middle of Wales if you want that, but all the English people do is complain how much they hate Wales so cant win

Wales is lovely, but then we've found the rural Welsh don't want us English there and make us feel unwelcome. Likely for the truth to be somewhere in the middle though.
