Anyone know or ideally have used any online website that you can order a doner from?

I'm talking like the whole thing not bagged or sliced up.

I looked at JJ's Food Service but discovered minimum order for delivery is £200 :(

I got a Sawarma grill (kebab grill) and yes I could and will make it myself, I also fancy just buying a pre made factory produced one.

Frustraitingly if it wasnt for the minimum order the ones on JJ's looked ideal, you can get a 5kg chicken doner for about £30 for example:

Guess you live too far away to collect? Ask a local takeaway to order one in for you ?

Yup, and I live in the middle of nowhere really, so can't get a decent kebab (probably a good thing) hence trying to get my own setup going.

I've looked a bit further and seems it's actually not that easy which is weird, because other online places will sell frozen food and deliver it for a reasonable delivery fee. Meat supermarket etc.

Bit frustrated because I bought the grill off the back off thinking they were easier to get hold off until I actually made an account etc to find out last minute £200 minimum.

Not blaming anyone but myself though.

How quickly are you going to eat 5kg of Doner meat?

Can't you just make your own?

About 10 minutes mate lolol.

Yea you can make your own, I have done before I'm the past, just without the grill.

It's never quite the same though without that industrial factory process, and all the salt, trans fats and whatnot they put in it.

The fact you've got a full size doner set up is actually fantastic, however I don't see how you're getting through 4.5kg of chicken doner unless you're feeding 30+ people. The salt alone would kill you.

It's not like you can keep it going perpetually or store it between cooks, and they will more than likely arrive frozen so you can't really portion it out

Personally, I would just make my own. Get some chicken legs, debone them and make a marinade, then you can just fill the skewer part way.

Unless you're planning on opening a ghost kitchen and providing kebabs for your neighbours... in which case buy a chest freezer and 10 of them.

You're gonna want an emulsifier like E451 (Sodium Tripolyphosphate) and MSG to really replicate it. Also just dumb amounts of salt.

Edit: This has led me down a rabbit hole... a 10kg elephant leg is only £18. £1.80 per kilo, that's possibly the cheapest "meat" I've ever seen. It also contains 3.9g salt per 100g, compared to only 0.88g for the chicken one.

3.9g of salt is about 60% of your daily sodium intake in 100g. Christ.

Well made my own.

I'm gonna let it sit there for a few hours, let the air and flies get to it a bit, try and give it a more authentic takeaway taste.

I want to know how you were planning to fit the 10kg doner from JJ's onto that spit?

I've actually done my own doner (I'm sure I posted it on here back in the day too) and bought a ready made one from JJ's for a big family BBQ too. We had to turn it horizontally and cook it over a fire pit though as it was massive.

edit: here we go and I've even got the sword to knight @BUDFORCE with.

Well....that definitely needs to happen again.

I did take some learning from it though:

- Took waaaaay longer to cook then I thought, I thought maybe 20 minutes, more like an hour and 20 minutes
- I need a razor sharp knife that I don't mind getting ruined

Otherwise not bad for a first run.

Looks bloody great, well done.

Knife wise I'd get a salmon slicer, cheapest one I've seen that isn't terrible is this: https://www.procook.co.uk/product/professional-x50-chef-ham-salmon-knife-25cm-10in

Procook aren't the best, but at £9 and only being used on the kebab spit it'll be fine.
