*** Official Ubiquiti Discussion Thread ***

Just realised, I'll be short by 8mm for this to fit in the rack . I'll make it fit somehow. £190 for it is a decent price point too.
£190 is awesome, I was thinking about upgrading my Uniview NVR as it doesn't support H265 - this seems ideal.

Wish I hadn't bought an UNVR now :p.

Still, those four packs will do nicely for the practices that we still need to wire up.

Ditto, wish I hadn't used it and just sold it instead, but there we are. I should have just stayed on the Cloud Gateway for longer.
Cameras in use
2 x 4K
1 x 2k
1 x HD

I was hoping they brought out a 1 or 2 drive NVR

Semi tempted to sell the NVR off

I expect we'll see a desktop NAS next

Hmm kinda interest. I am tempted to:

- Replace Dream Machine SE with Cloud Gateway Fibre (smaller device for under tv cabinet)
- Move existing NVR drive to a UNVR Instant and replace a small POE switch I have driving cameras

Saying that, just spent a wedge on 10Gbit + Wifi 7 upgrades so I'll wait a bit while

Yeah am tempted to try selling the UNVR and seeing what I get for it to just buy an instant. I dont need the cameras at home.

We'll be buying 3 of these kits for the practices though for sure.

They already do the cloud key gen2+.

The downside of that device is you are restricted to a single 2.5” drive so max 5TB.
Yeah I am aware of that unit, Although was hanging fire to see if anything else came about. I could go down the second hand route with one of them. 5TB would be plenty for 2 x 2K cameras and a doorbell.

Personally, given the price of the instant and the premium for a 2.5” drive over a 3.5” drive, I’d just get the instant and benefit from the additional POE etc.

There are not any NAS/CCTV specific 2.5” drives either.

Having slept on it, I’m not sure I’d bother.

The instant is cheaper but it’s got a pretty low limit on how many 4K cameras it can support and all G6 cameras are 4K.

By the time you have sold the UNVR and obtained the instant, I’m not sure you’d saved any cash. The POE might be handy but if you need a POE switch for other things like access points, you probably can’t shrink that either.

This is true, I actually have a 4TB 3.5" drive in my current HikVision setup so can swap that into the instant.

For anyone looking to buy the UNVR Instant. Apparently right now, it's cheaper to buy the parts individually than buy the kit; as the for whatever reason the cameras are discounted on the E.U store.

Only works with Unifi cameras I assume? I don't mind replacing the NVR but don't think I need to replace the cameras(I have a non Unifi system for CCTV)

Yes. Someone was comparing buying the individual parts, as apposed to buying the kit.

Edit - Ubiquiti must have updated the price for the E.U store, as the reporter was saying that the kit cost was €700. But looking at it now; it's around €650.

The FAQ on the store page says:

"Does the Network Video Recorder Instant support third-party cameras?

Yes, the Network Video Recorder Instant supports seamless integration with ONVIF-compliant third-party cameras, allowing smooth and easy migration of existing security systems to UniFi Protect.
"

POE budget of 40W though.

‘Support’ is the relative, IIRC the AI detections on 3rd party cameras don’t work.

I’m not sure why you’d go out of your way to use this with say Hik cameras. It’s full functionality only works with Ubiquiti cameras.
