MinisForum MS-01/AX/XX - Owners Thread

@skyeci100 how are you getting on with your return? I have a unit that it looks like I need to send back to Minisforum and I am not inspired as the addresses they have given me are:

  1. A "Morrisons Daily & Post Office"
  2. A "random house" in Nottingham

Also, they've not provided a return slip so like yourself it looks like I am going to have to stump up the cash for a RMSD slip for the item

. I had the same address's. Personally I would send it to the house... I sent mine to the morrisons... far as royal mail say its still there nearly 18 days on. I received my replacement this week. I would make sure you send it signed and tracked and as soon as its delivered send them a screen shot of the signature. I sent them the sig of it being delivered to the morrisons which is all I could do.. Rm told me it will be sent back shortly as I sent it tracked and signed for. Im interested to see if it comes back as no one really knows where it is it seems
It was £9 approx for tracked 24 with signature (I didn't special delivery it as it was £20) In hindsight I would have opted for the house as I dont think they have collected it. The uk agent wouldn't speak on the phone after trying to make contact several times...

Brilliant, looks like they are definitely following a clear process then!

I'll push back on them as I mentioned the fact that the addressed they have provided are "Known for not accepting" parcels.

Honestly, I get not having a fully built out infrastructure but having a returns process that sends systems to a Morrisons Daily doesn't inspire confidence, especially when asking for a 5* review at the same time :(

Yes keeping on for a review to me as well. no chance. .

They actually asked me if it had been collected!... I guess the agent doesn't speak to them either. That's why I just provided the signnature of the drop off at morrisons, thankfully that was enough to get the replacement sent out but it was another week nearly before they sent it... its up to them to chase it up with the agent. Im hoping it will come back as that would be somewhat amusing!

Thankfully the replacement has been ok so far as ran it on extended me test for hours...

At least they sent a replacement out then!

At this point I just want a refund from them :D

Welp, on one of my units I ended up biting the bullet and sending it to the address, shock horror that it is stuck there with no update from them

Like, I get that not all companies have RMA infrastructure and things aren't instant but this is just disappointing, the parcel was posted Special Delivery 1PM with an image even provided to them!

The only advice I can give you is download a copy of the signature that signed for it to be dropped off at the morrisons. I sent them that and that seemed to kick off the replacement etc...good luck!

Well, the quest continues!

They confirmed they received the unit last Thursday after chasing however as of today I've still not had an update on when the replacement unit will be send out so I will have to chase them again.

Looks like there will be another week of chaser emails to try and get this moving :(

I couldn't find a dedicated owners thread for the MS-A2, so figured I'd post here as a search found some other posts here. I can create a new one, but a lot of decent information here already.

I have 3* MS-A2's, each with:
  • 25 GbE PCI Dual Port NIC
  • 96GB RAM
  • Patriot P320 256GB boot NVMe
  • 1TB Samsung PM 981 Enterprise NVMe
  • WD BLACK SN850X 4TB NVMe
I run VCF 9 on them (Management Domain), and then an additional WLD on my Intel NUC Extremes.

For anyone running any serious workloads on these, I'd highly recommending changing the BIOS to introduce a thermal limit, more details in the post below. Additional noise benefits too.

Adjusting the TJmax setting from 0 to 78 in the UEFI reduces operating temperatures by 15 degrees with only a 5% max performance reduction while extending estimated CPU lifespan by approximately 800%.

Old pic void of the third MS-A2, and still to this day as untidy as the pic suggests, I need to spend a bit of time cleaning it all up.

Once finances allow, I'll replace all the NUC Extremes and end up with probably 6 of the MS-A2's.

May as well keep everything in one thread like with the Microservers (They are all similar tbf so advice for them is likely related)

How do you find M.2 temps on the A2 as on the MS-01 they did tend to get a little spicy if they didn't have a heatsink on them

Thread title change perhaps if there's a mod in here?

NVMe drives sit around 50-70 degrees depending on what I'm doing with it. Well, the boot drive is much less. I should note that I run them at the default PCI 3, I don't see the requirement for version 4 in a home lab and no doubt the extra heat would be difficult to manage.

Similar to what the MS-01 ran at that, albeit mine tended to be 50ish for the heatsink one and 70ish for the one without (I'm not massively keen on them going higher than 60c)

I've tried to change it myself so will see if that sticks :D

I'm not even sure how I could fit a heatsink on the drives, the HSF is so tight fitment wise!

On the MS-01 they included little heatsinks as there was a little bit of space underneath next to where the fan was for the M.2 drives, unfortunately theres not enough space to have them on all the drives installed (two at most)

Anyone running Truenas on a MS01? want to run it with a couple of PI hole, selfhost drop box, self host VPN and lan cache and wondering if anyone hjere has had some experiance doing so?
