*** The Official Nintendo Switch 2 ***

Just when you think Nintendo are going to be safe and boring they drop the Virtual Boy...

I mean that's nuts, I'm tempted whatever the cost as it's just such a weird thing and I never thought I'd get to play one.

Originally most of the world never got to experience it.

Now they can. :)

Cool to see how they nipped and tucked RE9 for the Switch 2. I'm still going for the full fat PC experience though. I was hoping for new Mario stuff but evidently polishing up the oldies is good enough for a lot of people. Nice to finally get the release date for Metroid 4.

I envy those of you who haven't played the Galaxy games yet, my faviourite 3D Mario's especially Galaxy 2.

I'll end up getting Mario Tennis Fever. I enjoy games like that.

Same!, most exciting new announcment of the direct for me, loved Aces and I like the direction they're taking this one in.

Yoshi game looks amazing but probably too casual for my liking, It's cool RE9 is coming to Switch 2, Fatal Frame 2 remake too. I think I'm sold on Hades 2, looks amazing.

Thats rough for switch 2

I think it'll look just fine in motion when actually playing, especially in handheld. IQ will be a bit rough looking on larger 4k screens though for sure based on the trailer.

We're still a while away from RE9's release though, we don't know exactly how it'll turn out.

Paid DLC for Donkey Kong is ****ing insane.

As for graphics, I was watching my wife play Expedition 33 on the steam deck and whilst the pop-in / texture load was insane and the frame rate a bit rough, on a smaller screen these things mattered a lot less and I actually thought it looked pretty good. With the game’s aesthetic, it kinda added to a sort of ‘false reality’ feel, you know?

I don’t know how well that would carry over to something like RE9, but I think stylistic choice can be more important than raw performance. Shadow of the Colossus remastered looked great at 30 fps fixed (‘cinematic mode’) - the low, film-like frame rate and lack of HUD helped make it look cinematic.

Lots of predatory practices in this Direct ie. DLC for a game that's just been released ( DK Bananza ), reselling SM Galaxy and advertising DLC for a game that hasn't been released yet ( Pokemon ). Hard to defend Nintendo when they do stuff like this. If it wasn't for the Fire Emblem announcement this Direct would have been a major disappointment for me. Good to see ongoing 3rd party support but personally I'll be picking up the likes of Resident Evil on either PC or PS5 pro for better performance / graphics ... and probably cheaper !

Paid DLC is a choice though. You don't have to buy any of it.

I am annoyed at SM Galaxy though. If their plan was always to release the Galaxy games as a duo then why bother including it in the 3D allstars bundle?
