Spec me a CCTV System

I’ll play along, Dahua and Hikvision are obviously manufactured in China, so where exactly do you think Reolink or Ubiquiti manufacture? Or your TV, phone, tablet, streaming device, PC and most of the components found in any of those devices even if they are assembled in a different country?

Both Dahua and Hikvision have much closer connections to the Chinese government, and that's why both of these brands are banned from UK government sites. This would suggest the data from their internet-enabled cameras may be available to the Chinese government.

Isolate them on their own VLAN if you're worried.

Alternatively AJAX are a new contender in the space. Their security alarm systems and software ecosystem are great, they're new to the CCTV game in the last year and are all designed and manufactured in Ukraine I believe.

That's a lovely fairy-tale of US xenophobia and scaremongering that our government played 'follow my leader' with. Stop and consider for a moment, if you are running a secure CCTV system on a site of a sensitive nature at any level, surely you'd air gap that on a dedicated network with no connection to the outside world? Even in a home environment where we are all about the convenience of our video doorbells/cameras and remote notifications, do you honestly think China care what time I let the dog out for a wee or that the Evri driver put 4 rolls of obscenely expensive wallpaper in my cupboard without ringing the bell? If they were, easier and softer targets exist that are generally going to be much more useful.

They may not care, but that does not necessarily stop them collecting the data.

I'm just saying if you're installing internet connected recording equipment, then some people might wish to consider who might have access to that data.

I'd be much more concerned with the UK governments passing of laws requiring meta data collection for everyone and the worryingly large number of departments with tenuous justifications for accessing it. Either way, your logic is still flawed as all the brands and equipment you have suggested are somehow better are still made using Chinese components in Chinese factories by Chinese workers.

Have a look at this new UniFi box.
Had a good look at this and as an NVR it looks pretty good, I like what it can do.

The kit as a whole is a bit over priced, especially with only a 1Tb hard drive, and how good are the actual cameras? I can't find any reviews on those specifically, especially for night vision.

So I may look at pairing the Unifi NVR with a bigger hard drive and separate 4k cameras.

For non-Chinese software, no subscription, and a company who will warrant and support the product I think it's reasonably priced.

The night vision is okay, but HIK etc will be better with ColourVue.

UniFi NVRs have limited support for 3rd party cameras, you just get streams IIRC and none of the fancy bits/notifications etc.

Have you actually looked at what a comparable camera set-up from a non garbage tier OEM costs? I can't get my head round how you can't find reviews of one of the most reviewed brands in the sector, man + dog reviews them, where did you look? If you want longer footage retention, feel free to up the storage or offload it to network storage you presumably already have, CCTV's value isn't in multi-year retention, it's in being able to recall events within a few days or weeks to work out when something happened, if you aren't noticing things for years, that's a different problem. You'll find adding Hikvision etc. works, but without the advanced detection/integration as it relies on the camera's ability to trigger warnings, and without paying even more per camera for the Ubiquiti AI controller for each camera (or waiting till the gen 2 version supporting multiple cameras becomes a thing), you'll struggle.
Amazon have 2 bink camaras and a years subscription for £99 works out £19.00 for camaras and £80 for the sub.
That's because you aren't buying the cameras, you're being sold an over priced subscription. 5 years from now you've thrown £419 on two cameras that should have cost you significantly less, and that's not including the bump in subscription rates over the same period.

I'm saying I can't find in depth reviews of the cameras themselves, in all conditions to know if they're right for me. By all means, link me up if you know of any. The NVR looks a great bit of kit and yes the HDD is not big enough in the kit, but it would do as a starting point. Their price for buying a hard drive separately tells me they overprice their kit a little, but I don't mind spending the money if it ticks all boxes and meets my needs.

Youtube is littered with reviews, what exactly are they not covering? I mean the extreme stuff like snow blizzards/lightening/gale force winds/tsunamis and monsoons probably aren't covered, but you live in Burton.

There's a few but none of them (so far) have shown me enough, its that simple. After all, the camera quality is what I'm after and the basis of any CCTV system.

What do you want to know? I've got G5 bullets which are similar, same sensor etc but slightly different optics and less powerful IR.

The turret ultra has a wider FOV and more IR for night but otherwise it is broadly the same.

They are 2K cameras so they are not going to be market leading but pretty solid for a mid range camera. My G6 cameras are materially better but they are 4k and also twice the price.

When I said 'what exactly are they not showing' I was expecting a specific scenario that hasn't been done to death, instead the best you could come up with is 'non of them (so far) have shown me enough'.... do you have any clue what you want to see or has this just been a way for you to fill in a few minutes on a Saturday? I've watched a lot of CCTV reviews over recent years, the vast majority tend to cover a range of day/night conditions and various levels of ambient light, IR/onboard light capabilities and where appropriate, audio or AI/NPR, I can't really say i've ever struggled to form a general opinion on the capabilities and suitability after watching a few reviews, but if you can't for some reason, then you're probably going to have to buy/test yourself if your needs are that niche/indescribable.

Personally, I tend to stick to Hikvision for the properties I look after, it's reliable, scales reasonably well across multiple sites, with everything from a single camera with local storage upto a installs with 12+ cameras and NVR's running RAID1 with varying frame rates. Personally, I run Unifi at home, but with a mix of Unifi and Hikvision cameras. If we are talking a single site domestic install with a handful of cameras, i'd happily throw the money at Unifi all day long (stop laughing @ChrisD. ) It's easy to live with, the app is family friendly, administration is simple and while it's crying out for 24/7 full colour in near zero light rather than IR/B&W (the main reason I run Hikvision ColorVu cameras), it's not been a problem from an evidence perspective when I have been asked for images or footage.

Really? 4 cameras cost £379.20, the NVR lists at £190.80, that leaves £48 for a certified 1TB drive, or 1p more than OCUK will sell you a Seagate 1TB drive for:

Nothing to stop you choosing higher spec camera(s) or a different storage option, but how long are you wanting to retain data for? If it's recording 24/7 you likely have a few months on a 4 camera set-up depending on settings, much longer if it only records when something happens in a defined zone.

Can I just say, you come across as quite aggressive and unfortunately quite arrogant. Do you speak to everyone that way? I appreciate you might be somewhat of an expert or perhaps just an enthusiast, but either way I'd happy to listen to your advice when it's offered without the attitude.

Must be normal, they show as on my ignore list. Lol

Please, feel free, you're entitled to your opinion, I mean if i'd just been asked by someone who was trying to help me what specifically I needed to see in order to make an informed choice and the best I could come up with was 'non of the reviews had shown me enough' and then had it pointed out my earlier statement about price was equally poorly reasoned, I may choose to be butt hurt too, but that would be a me problem, or in this case, a you problem. If you work out what you actually need to see, feel free to ask, I don't hold grudges and may actually be able to help, but I won't loose any sleep either way :)

Can you actually post a reply without some sort of childish insult? Butt hurt?? I just feel its better to be respectful and polite. My reasoning is perfectly sound for me, who are you to tell me otherwise? I've already stated what I wanted in my first post, but I'm sorry if it wasn't specific enough for you, and once again, none of the reviews of the G5 cameras (so far) show me everything I want to see and I'm also weighing up if I now want colour night vision.

For someone asking for help you did seem to be weirdly obtuse about it 'reviews don't show me what I want to see'
"What do you want to see?"
And in circles the conversation went.
