Octopus Power Ups and Free Energy Sessions

Very nice. I am guessing home battery and ev. Or 3 phase? Lol

Took the free hour to:

Charge one car from the wallbox
Charge the other with a granny plug
Put the tumble drier on
Put some washing on
Put the dishwasher on
Boil the kettle (didn’t use it)

See if I can beat the record from last time…

No home battery or 3 phase! If I’d thought about it, I could’ve put on the immersion heater and the treadmill too!

So what the hell did you have on? I only get 52p for an hour and that's me with car on and some stuff in kitchen

No i don't let the kettle boil for no reason. :p

Quoted the list above from a previous post, but basically getting through 10kwh+ at 25p each. 7kwh of that is the main charger.

It's not really a 25p/kwh 'saving' though is it, your normal EV charging rate will be 7p.

This is why I don't bother at this time of year as I have too much solar which is worth 15p/kwh to get through before I can take anything from the grid where I'd only really be saving 7p.

If you want to get pedantic then yes, but those are the figures they put back into my account so it’ll do me.

Its not pedantic, its just reality :p
LOL, that was exactly what I was thinking before I scrolled down and revealed your post.

For me, what goes into the batteries is worth 15p per kWh, peanuts really, but I can store the solar as well, so gain a little.

I start by exporting earlier in the day so my batts will take a full charge for an hour (assuming hour session) so export around 6kwh at 15p.
I then fully recharge that back during the session, if solar is really strong my solar will just about max my charge rate but thats rare as if its summer then it tends to have heated teh panels hot by then. Best case is around 4.5kwh from solar in that hour generally.

However we also then do a load of washing and the start is the more energy intensive bit (water heating) a 1 hour hot dishwasher cycle, 2x fan heaters if its cold, today for example will probably stick them on downstairs so they creep around the house a bit
Hot water goes on with immersion (forgot to switch off water heating last night but an hour session will tend to draw for the full session anyway as immersion heats hotter than boiler)

Every imported unit in effect worth 15p that way. I will tend to import around 8kwh in a 1 hour and 12kwh in a 2 hour session. Varies a bit depending on solar generation.
Typically earlier sessions suits me due to west facing array.

Gas offset ofc is slightly lower gain.

Above is pretty much what I do, although on weekdays I'm not home, but can still boost the hot water.

That's about right, no sunshine all day and then it suddenly comes out and generates 6.04kW just as the session starts.

Same here, 4.75 forecast ended up with 7 being generated, and very spiky as well, had spikes above 10kW.

Solar has been pretty rubbish today with only 5kW generated so far.
I was glad for the free session this afternoon as I managed to get an extra 30% into the batteries.

But all those 50p add up eventually.

I'm only forecast for 4.25 kWh, but the sun normally comes out which limits my import ability.

Usually work out at a minimum of £1-1.5 for me (thats real gain) depending on the sun at the time

This time of year it can make more diff for me.
Battery for example is only at 77% right now due to weather so I will export less tonight
Getting a full battery at 3pm means more to export later, plus of course what I export pre session

For me it all goes into the "solar savings pot" as a high percentage of the benefit comes from being able to use the house batteries to great effect.

The ones in the depth of winter are a godsend
