Borderlands 4 (2025)

It shouldn't have felt like that if reflex was enabled. I can see you are using a lg c2 42 display? So perhaps you are exceeding the refresh rate of that and with vsync on, your fps is getting reduced/locked.

MFG x3 and x4 is only beneficial on high refresh rate displays of 240hz really.

I'll have to check if reflex was on. I don't think VYNC was on at the time because that's when I noticed things were a bit off when I was panning the camera. It's when I was testing the difference with it on/off re screen tearing.

Problem is those who use frame then all the time get used to the added latency to the point it's not noticed anymore. Wading through treacle becomes the norm.
Nexus18 even posted a comment admitting the latency but you get used to it quite a while ago.

Yup if you give it 5 minutes of playing rather than just flicking on and off, you will adapt and get used to it.

But it does depend on your base fps and whether you use m+k or controller if you notice the latency or not, at 60-70 fps, you probably will notice the increase, whether this bothers you or not is subjective but if playing at base rate of 80 fps, I would say it is very hard to notice the increase in latency especially if using a controller over m+k.

I find it interesting that, despite BL4 moving to instanced loot only, this isn't the case for the golden chest, where it seems that loot is shared.
Previous games did both AFAIK, BL3 definitely did both. You could choose when you went into game whether you wanted it competative or cooperative. If they've removed the option that seems....odd. As odd as the weird mix you've described with the golden chests.

I just read a post from Randy... classic gas lighting! So we're now supposed to accept that sub 60 at max settings on a £2500 GPU should be considered acceptable. That guy needs to get stuffed.

So i bought and enjoying it so far.
My rig is hitting 100-130fps @ 1440P using the recommended nvidia settings posted on steam for a 4070super even though im running a 4070.
There was no recommendations for my 4070 so i thought the 4070 settings would do ok which they are.
Im assuming my 7800X3D is helping quite a bit.
Without Framegen its about 75 fps but doesnt feel like anywhere close to as smooth game at 75fps which makes me wonder if there is some inherrent issues going on that they just mask over it by telling people to throw on framegen.
I cannot explain why 75 fps fels so much more sluggish on this game than other games.
Ive just ran some Helldivers2 and Space Marine 2 and locked them to 75fps to compare and they are both much smoother at same frames, weird one for sure.

These are the settings nvidia suggest for the 4070 super mostly high/very high.

The game looks no better than BL3 , infact hardware unboxed latest vid said BL3 looks better, thats a massive fail from gearbox.
But when all is said and done it feels a lot better to play than the other games imo, gunplay is very enjoyable.

It's all good, he's doing well with all the pre orders and day one purchases

Yes BL3 let you choose but clearly they've decided that shared loot is awful, which it is, which makes it more confusing why they've kept it just for the golden chest.

On the subject of loot, the "pick up as junk" is revolutionary for stuff you just want to sell. I just wish there was an option to "equip and mark replaced item as junk" :)

What's the best way of getting the game for cheaper than RRP? I know of grey sites which bring it to £43, are folk flogging codes though?

No need to use quality DLSS, just use performance (assuming you're on the latest version).

There is a story, but think of the game as a FPS version of Diablo or Path of Exile. In as much as there is a story in those too but really the game is about running around, loosely moving from area to area doing side quests and a main quest, and killing and looting as much as you can.

Just as with Diablo and Path of Exile, you can do that solo or in groups, thus the co-op part. Multiplayer is about the co-op looting/killing rather than team deathmatch etc. You work together to get loot while going through the game.

Actually never played either of those games but i get the idea.

I actually enjoy playing against AI rather than other players, i get far too serious i'll save that for battlefield 6.

The looting is so time consuming , i dunno if you get to the point that you ended just leaving the guns/items you find or always clear back pack and clear the bank when stocked up thats also taking some time.

I think the general advice is to always use Performance mode if you have a 4K monitor with the latest DLSS.

The lower your native resolution, the lower the starting resolution for upscaling, so Performance mode can look quite blurry on a 1440p monitor, for example.

Ok my son currently has a 3060ti and a 5700x3d and he is very disappointed with the performance playing at 1080..
He wants a better GPU, will a 5070 give acceptable performance at 1080, with DLSS. Or will he have to spend more than the £470 entry price?

Disagree that shared loot is awful. My friends and I always played with shared loot, that way we could all see what was around and decide what we wanted. With it instanced, we'd end up having to drop everything after picking it up, or tell eachother what we've got, or just not bother sharing.

There was only one guy who would go around hoovering up everything and we stopped playing with him almost instantly because of it.

As for pick up as junk, BL3 had an autosell rarirty option, but it's nice to see the ability to then also mark stuff as junk upon pickup that may slip through that filter.

Looks perfect on my 3440x1440 panel.
