The Indoor Riding/ Zwift/ TrainerRoad etc. Thread

Weather been minging here lately. Decided to have another go at cracking the hour on the Alpe. 62 minutes. Its definitely in me, I just struggle to stay focussed and lay the power out for that length of time. I end up getting distracted by what Im watching and look up again at the screen and I'm in the grey zone. Also got passed by someone on a treadmill. :D Ran past me, up hill at 3:30m/km!

I finally broke the hour ~5.5 years ago by doing the erg workout "TT Tune-Up - Cruise Intervals #6" https://whatsonzwift.com/workouts/tt-tuneup/week-8-cruise-intervals-6 on Road To Sky and then doing a freeride effort for ~8mins30secs to set to the top in 56mins52secs.

Just about to submit and then seen I improved my time in '22 to 56mins19secs, I would have been ~5Kg heavier at ~81Kg, but in the shape of my brief cyling by numbers life. This time in a race, I'd missed the start, but paced the climb.

It's only ~3.4W/Kg to get a ~56mins time, very attainable by reasonably young/ healthy/ light cyclists, it would be very touch and go if I could manage it these days even on my ebike with max legal assist!

Thats 3.4w/kg for basically an hour though. I would wager that with our inflated ramp test FTPs you need around a 3.6w/kg+ FTP. Thats basically where I was when I went just under 1 hour.

Yeah I reckon I have the ability to do it - at least physically. HR before I tried to beat the clock in the last few km was sitting around 168. 198 is my max so had plenty of room but was watching Saturdays football highlights on the ipad and frequently lost concentration.

They don’t happen often, but there are big group event rides up. Can be good to have a group to pace with and give a focus.

Hopefully things are moving with selling ym Atom.

And just in time as the Kickr Core 2 has just been announced https://uk.wahoofitness.com/devices...trainers/kickr-core-2-zwift-cog-and-click-buy

Which, as it has WiFi, will solve my Apple TV bluetooth limit issue.

Only thing is that they don't seem to have a Zwift Ride 'kit' with the Core 2 yet. So would have to buy the frame and Core 2 separately. hmmmmm
There is a Core 2 set on Zwift site now for UK. It is 1099. I’m sure there are some discount codes that could take it to 999, but I can’t find it now.

Seems to work:
i can’t get the link to copy and paste and work. The guy who posted the discount link on YouTube is Ryan Condon and it is his last post. The link works for me and applies a discount a few seconds after loading to make the package under £1000.

Is the BRAEk-fast Crits and Grits the nastiest Zwift course for racing on? Launches you straight up a climb out of the pens, so no chance to get going and settle in, it's straight into the red if you don't want to get dropped

I did that one Wednesday morning. End is worse. 1km of pure climbing after 30 minutes of solid effort. Zwift have bumped me to B now, finished nearly two minutes behind the winner

I did it yesterday. My ZRS is 478 at the moment, so I'm close to the top of group two in Range 1 but almost right at the bottom of G2 in Range 2 (so cat C once you add in the separate Advanced group?). I think two guys got away on the lead-in climb but only by a few seconds. The winner stayed away, whilst the other rider was eventually caught by a couple of others who went off the front. I was a minute back by the end but managed to drop the other two riders I'd stuck with thanks to a well timed Feather PU inside the last 300m of the final climb.

Nope, there's Grand Central and Ven Top for starters.

It has Bridge mode, that combined with Wifi will solve your issue! :)

Yup it's a brutal one, BUT I LOVE IT! :D

My only ZRL win was on that course. Admittedly in a Cat C at the start of last season and I was in B again shortly afterwards! Tough/hard/technical courses have always suited me.

Did another Double TTT last night as I didn't ride/race earlier in the week. Have been struggling with sleep this week and even after that barely got 6 hours so carrying a bunch of non-ride fatigue. Busy weekend ahead at Chessingham so may not get a chance to ride until we're back sunday night. But at least that should mean I catch up on some sleep after lots of walking & then an early night away from home...

ZRL starts Tuesday, I've not done much racing but certainly feeling good on the bike and TTT'ing well so I think I'm ready! :D

So had the Zwift ride and updated Kickr Core 2 for a few days now, done about 150 miles or so. First observations are (bearing in mind I'm comparing to an 8 year old Wattbike V1):

- VERY quiet. The noise of the fan is the only thing I can hear now really, whereas before the Wattbike was relatively noisy.
- Much more responsive. Not done any ERG workouts yet, but the way the resistance changes seems more 'realistic'. The Wattbike would often feel like you've thrown an anchor out the back when ever you hit a sharp spike in Zwift.
- Virtual shifting works well. Feels like a definite resistance change, more like a step, whereas the Wattbike felt more 'mushy'.
- The Zwift controllers are awesome! No gimmick here! You can control everything. I'm using an Apple TV (which the new Bridge feature helps with the limited BT connections), but you dont need the remote at all. Being able to shift while sprinting is a new one for me too, as the Wattbike controls were on the front and not accessible while in the drops. Even the little custom button at the very bottom of the lever on each side is a cool touch, can program this to activate a power up. Useful for sprints!
- Build quality very good! Load of nice touches all over the place. Included allen key, chain drop protector (for when removing the bike from trainer). Feels really solid, even with the one 'fork' out front.
- Very adjustable. All the major bits are moveable via the included allen key, so very easy to move the bars up/down and back/forward, saddle etc. Still trying to dial in the position but getting there.

So very impressed so far! Looking forward to an off season on it :)

Upgraded the saddle yesterday, and I had a little go at using an 'AI' bike fitting app. (MyVeloFit).

It picked up that I needed the saddle lowering, and bars raising (which hopefully explains why I was feeling a bit more weight on my hands). I find indoor fitting really hard, as you don't have all the 'distractions' of road riding, and you're not shifting about as much.
Will have a go at round two this evening :)

Has anyone tried Xert? I can’t get my trainer Road account reactivated (credit card gets declined which seems a common issue). I had 2 work outs so far with it pulling my numbers from recent rides, but they have been very tough to the point of failure and having to stop mid block. I don’t know if I am just doing it wrong, but it seems much tougher than anything trainneroad gave me.

There is a 30 day free trial so thought it might be an improvement from the random zwift work outs.

Well that was brutal, dropped into an overflow team to help lead them (as one of the most experienced TTT captains), but really the riders a level above my level at the moment... Still did great and a great ride from me. Probably my current FTP level 260W for towards 40 mins. A good workout! If I get a bit of fitness back and lose a couple of kg I'll be back to where I was in the spring (265W @ 75kg)

Wow that is pretty retarded, or did they just get so much backlash and hundreds of threads with the date issue they had?

So very impressed so far! Looking forward to an off season on it :)
Brilliant first impressions and mini review! Hope it continues to impress - most people I know with them seem to love the Ride.

Rode it for that ZRL on Tuesday. Also tried my NoPinz ice packs for the first time, as it’s not really winter yet. So I was getting hot just warming up!

Only rider in our A team too :( Surprisingly lumpy course for a ‘flat’ route.
