EV general discussion

If it's tripping there's an issue that needs to be looked at, it's not going to get anything but worse if you leave it

Kona update:

I accidentally flattened the 12v battery on the weekend while tinkering with it with the doors and boot open!

Definitely seems to be a weak point on that family of cars, I flattened the one in my Niro (which I believe is essentially the same car under the bonnet) a couple of times after doing similar, so I replaced the battery and picked up a portable jump starter for in the boot.

I also try to always remember and put it into utility mode if it's going to be open for any length of time (e.g. loading up for tip runs/going on holiday etc.).

What's annoying is that the hybrid apparently has a button on the dash you can use to manually charge the 12v from the traction battery, but the full EV doesn't

I know the Ioniq crowd like to fit a bigger battery too, i can't remember which one it is but the OEM one is tiny and there's loads of space to fit a physically bigger one so worth looking into if its the same in the Kona too. I know i'll try and do that when the time comes to replace mine.

Playing with my new Dragy pro on the born VZ as it was fully charged and knew the 5.6 book time was conservative.

Not bad for a roller skate, 30-70 is decent.

0.60 - 5.02s
1.4 13.4s @ 104.8mph
30-70 4.18s

Not bad but please be aware the official 5.6 time is for 0-62mph (0-100kph), so will always be off for UK performance measurements.

Yeh good point. need to manually add that one in as default is 0-60mph or 0-100kph if you go into metric mode.

Dinamica is just on armrest and door cards.
It reads like the seat materials are also from recycled plastic.
This commitment to sustainable materials can also be seen in the upholstery, as the base is made with SEAQUAL® YARN fabric created from plastic waste extracted from the sea
I'm sure most people won't care, I just happen to be married to someone who is microplastic obsessed and is on a mission to ensure anything we buy minimises our exposure.

Does have it's advantages sometimes though, I was instructed to return nearly £70 worth of branded school uniform when it arrived and was 70% polyester. Replaced it with about £14 worth of 100% cotton stuff from the supermarket :D

Haha i wish i could get away with that at our school :( they're very strict on having the specific branded stuff

But on a plus note when i dropped my daughter off yesterday we were one of 4 electric cars in a row doing drop offs so that was nice to see.

Yeah thankfully it's a sensible policy of school logo or plain being perfectly acceptable.

I'm pleased we decided to base ourselves a 5 minute walk away from the school when we moved house as it's like the Champs-Élysées at drop off and pick-up time!

Talking of schools and cars, the primary near our office has a woman who parks up outside in a diesel Qashqai every lunch time and leaves the engine running for the whole duration. I honestly have no idea why, or what she is even doing there but I swear I'm going to go full Axel Foley on it one day :p

Talking of Microplastics I watched a documentary a while back that said the biggest contributor to ocean & environment microplastics is car tyres and brakes. It’s crazy like 1/3 of all of it is from them.
