Parking eye Asda fine - 15mins over

got a parking ticket from parking eye at our local Asda. Did a large weekly shop and the misses got distracted in the clothes section bought a coat and a few other bits and took her sweet time. Have receipts from the day

Limit was 2 hours, we stayed for 2:15mins

Have to pay or worth appealing?

I know a good few years ago people used to say to just ignore but that isn’t the case anymore.
https://www.popla.co.uk/ try these, free and a user on another forum who is involved with popla stated he's never lost a case.
Cost nothing to try.

Contact Asda first, but if that doesn't go anywhere, I recommend reading through the MSE advice that @Pants linked. Don't write and submit an appeal without reading that stuff first.

I've had loads of these too, mostly from one car park company called Smart Parking. I was able to get them cancelled by appealing and saying that I refuse to name the driver. Whether that works for ParkingEye charges, I couldn't tell you and I wouldn't want to give you inaccurate advice, so contact Asda first, then, if no ball, read the MSE advice for an appeal.

These private parking companies are scum. Yes, I know they're businesses, but look at recent events at where they've been extremely unreasonable, i.e. charging people after the 5 mins grace period, despite said people not being able to pay for parking due to faulty machine, etc (if not ANPR controlled). I know they've recently updated their own code of conduct to stop this from happening in the future, but they're basically making their own homework. Need the Government (lol) to hold them to account really through their code of conduct, which they are supposedly working through.

PPCs have always been thugs, of the worst kind. Clamping Funeral cars, ambulances on calls and so on. In 2012 the Government had the opportunity to sort it properly but fell short of regulating them. They did outlaw clamping (it was already illegal in Scotland), for councils also, which was something as that process was nothing short of Extortion with menace. It also did nothing for the actual issue.

As for Supermarkets, they get a cut of everything the PPC makes from 'managing' their car parks. They should respond to CS approaches, but often do not. The Co-Op found out the hard way that the PPCs will hang out to dry any of their clients who don't tow the PPC line.

Fortunately, a number of legal beagles have been fighting this behaviour for decades, firstly with a site called Pepipoo, and which has now phoenixed into the FTLA. I strongly advise all who use pay for car parks to arm themselves with the actual law, not the PPCs 'rules'.

If you have a ticket from a PPC, then a visit is a must and post up the details. Real help, from legal professionals and reliable experienced campaigners, will be provided.

My grandmother can take about 2 hours to do a big shop, she’s slow and doesn’t get many places these days so likes to take her time. Hardly the crime of the century.

OP, just contact the supermarket, I’m sure it’ll get sorted.
not to mention some supermarkets have cafes inside and what not.

I guess we're not talking about elderly are we. As stated it's not particularly difficult to monitor a time period, or set an alarm on your phone.
Or just have it delivered..
hehe i like to think im not elderly at 64 but it still gets close in local aldi 1.5 hours already had one ticket cancelled. get behind a some weekly shops and you lose 15mins very easily.
we shop every 2 weeks and have to set a alarm at 1 hour stage, once it went off and an assistant heard it and ask what it was , i told him also added that if time was close i would leave the trolley and shop at sainsbury thats when they said any problems they would cancel tickets. (and they did :))

70 in November, shopping for a week takes me 30 mins, I always go in with a plan, a list and I know where everything is located.
Mind you the supermarkets in Bourne are hardly busy, certainly nothing like the queues down the A21 for Hastings Sainsbury's at Christmas. Takes two hours just to get a place to park..

I've had loads of these tbh. Some of the times from not being aware of the payment process, and sometimes just chancing my luck. Probably had about 6 in the last decade, and not paid one of them. In every instance a quick email to whichever supermarket managed the lot would have it written off.

You'll be amazed how far you can get with stuff like this by simply sending a polite email to the relevant people.
A friend ignored one, and didn't bother to dispute it with the parking company, nor the shop... He went to get a mortgage and was denied because he had a CCJ because of it  The best bit is I had literally warned him this would happen :P

Wow, really? Not surprised about the mortgage application, but more the fact that he ended up getting a CCJ.

Some parking firms don't bother with the court stage and merely just use it to threaten you, but I guess the "ignore and nothing will happen" advice is outdated...

Strange, I've always heard the opposite, that you end up with a CCJ, and he did
The best bit is, his wife is so full of herself, and was laughing at me for saying this, quoting how her Dad just rips them up and throws them in the bin, etc.
The irony was brilliant. I did try and help them after all, but she knew better :P

Said your piece and let them deal with the aftermath basically. Nothing else you could've done tbh.

Had this a while ago at Tesco, appealed to Horizon Parking including proof that we had made three purchases during the visit (Clothes, Cafe, Groceries) and fully expected to be told tough round ones as we had somehow managed to spend about 4 hours in one shop :o

Got overturned as a gesture of good will. Tesco couldn't have cared less and just gave the "Parking durations are displayed in and outside the shop" ctrl+c, ctrl+v response.
Feel like doing a massive clothes shop. staying over the limit and when they refuse, Take the stuff back for a full refund....

I know people who always drive out with their boot open to hide their reg...Even if only been in for 10 mins

With these things, if it looks like you might be difficult, they are likely to cancel it as the time wasted dealing with you is bad for business. Find the inner karren.

If you are at a point where you don't need a mortage, loans etc and don't have to care too much about a credit score there isn't much they can throw at you anyway.

The real laugh is that the original ticket would have been invalid for 1000 and one reasons. But one does wonder how you 'miss' the court papers. It's an old trick the PPCs use if you've moved recently and not updated your V5. They'll send all of the debt collecting letters and draw up their claim on your old address. The CCJ is automatically applied as you didn't appeal/respond. This is an abuse of process (multiplied many thousands of times, but still the PPCs are not pulled up on it) and means the CCJ can be over turned. They should have just paid the CCJ, it would have gone away and credit checks would then succeed.

This story has been repeated many, many times unfortunately, it's about time these chancers were cut down to size.

Sorry, this might be too late. But if it happens at any supermarkets, go in store immediately, and you will get it revoked. I have had it done several times and it's been revoked every time
