First question to you knowledge folk - any recommendations for a home charger? Thank you
Hypervolt home 3 pro via octopus (£1049)
You could get something cheaper, but there prices are usually there or thereabouts

Just bought my first EV!
71 plate Hyundai Ioniq 5 Long Range Ultimate

Seems like a lovely car. Very spacious compared to my current Formentor.

Very nice welcome to the Ioniq club.

I have a Ohme Pro that's been great.

Congrats, I've had my ioniq 5 awd for 2 and a bit years a love it still. Anyway with regards to home chargers have a look and make sure whatever elec supplier you have supports either the car or the charger you are looking at. I am with Octopus with an Ohme Pro, does the job quite a small unit but the cable management if you go with tethered isn't great.

Hi all,

Quick question for anyone on Ovo.

My charger is linked to Ovo Charge Anytime, not my car. So CA manages everything which is fine as it works as it should.

I have a charging profile set up in the My Porsche app for my Taycan that I named '80' as its the one I use most of the time to charge the car to 80%.

If I want to charge the car to 100% however, do I need to set up another charge profile in the Porsche app and set the minimum charge to 100%? Because as far as I know, if activate 'Direct Charging' within the Porsche app charging section, the charger (Zappi 2.1) will ignore any charging profiles that are active (for example my '80' profile) and charge the car to full 100% capacity.

But here is my question - If I activate Direct Charging in order to get the car to 100%, will that mean the car is still charging on the cheap Ovo 7p per kWh or will Direct Charging mean its essentially like pressing 'Charge Now' in the Ovo app which means it charges at the higher rate of whatever domestic tariff you are on?

Hope that makes sense?

Can you not just set the charge level on the charger app each time? On my Ohme pro I just set what charge I want and when I need the car to be ready? I only limit the charge level when on DC fast charge.

No, that’s a unique feature of Ohme, they also use the cars API where available to get the SOC from the car. No one else bothers to do this so you ask the charger to add X% and they work out how many kwh to add based on the cars battery size.

Ohme is funny lately though. Does weird stuff and often only gives you 15 mins of a negative 30min period.

All new EV chargers since 2022 have randomised delay built in.

Had a test drive of the MG (kinda) IM5 and IM6 on Saturday. Drove a black IM5 long range, looks wise it reminded me more of a model S than a Model 3 in size, and from front only. Interior felt very nice, well put together and seats were very comfy, it felt much better to drive than the CLA AMG Pro I drove lost week. The IM6 was the launch edition with 740 ish hp and adjustable air Suspension, inside looked the same as the 5 but rear was far roomier and the would be a more practical car for most. The Air Suspension was good, but according to the dealer they have been told it will only be on the launch edition and no other version, but i expect it will be in a few months. Performance wise the 400hp ish IM5 was fine, plenty fast enough, the IM6 with 740hp odd was a bit silly and not really needed, but it sure was fun. Didn't get to try crab mode, but the 4 wheel steering made it feel a much smaller car than it is , thinks its around 10m turning circle, far better the my ioniq 5s. Biggest issue I had was over sensitive driver distraction warning, and the fact it didn't always pick up the national speed limit sign, but always saw the 30/40 one etc. Seems an OTA sw update could sort that out soon enough. All in all, both were above my expectations, I think an IM6 long range would work best for me, hopefully with the air Suspension option. Currently my preferred choice over the CLA and others I've tried.

That might be something they are trying to sort out with the trial I am taking part in. OHME invited selected users of their chargers to a trial where they are paying us every time we plug our cars in even if they don't need a charge. If I remember right it's so they can fine tune charging settings or something like that. Hopefully they will fine tune the app as well because it can be buggy as hell with my Leaf. We are well into month three now and I have had the maximum £16 a month for the previous two months and on track to do so this month as well. The thing is, they are paying me over three times what it cost's to charge the car every month so at the moment the car is costing me nothing to run. :D

Yes and no

A test drive often isn’t very long and you can miss things

Long story short - I had a test drive on a vehicle and it wasn't short and was quite liking it, then a colleague started pointing out all these little things like the steering wheel and pedals are slightly offset, the AC fan has a slight annoying modulation to it that once you notice you can't un-notice, etc., and next time I drove one noticing these things I realised I actually hate it - kind of weird experience.

Reviews are awful you must be a brave man :D
Only seen 1 review
Given he's driven it, he's properly formed his own opinion on it Vs that of a random 3rd party driving it and giving their opinion that may have outside influences.
Exactly, seen a few reviews only the top gear one seemed to not like it much, I had no problems with most of the stuff they complained when I drove it. Of course I didn't drive it like I was on some rally across the backroads of England, so I cant say about its handling on the twistys! For 99% of my driving is on Motorways or urban roads, it was fine, more settled than my ioniq 5, this was for both im5 and 6, and nicer than the CLA. Yes its expensive for an MG, in the same way genesis is for hyundai etc.

Isn't the CLA touring going to be the pick of the saloon crop - but unfortunately not out yet; and as IM5/Y competitor the recently mentioned/bought xpeng 6 with it's 800V too.

... just needed a right hand drive BMW like my previous car, for ultimate foot-space

Yeah the CLA shooting brake I'm far more interested in trying. The "EV" part of the CLA was great, but most of my issues with size should be rectified with the shooting brake. Only issue is I could see it being at least 3-5k more than the normal CLA as it will include the 400v charging, and an electrochromatic roof. Other issue is things like 360 camera, park assist and intelligent cruise need a subscription, this is included in top spec for a few years though.
