The last game you completed, and rating.

I've not completed a game in a while, so many are left unfinished, I just didn't have the muster to press on, I think I actually prefer more bitesize games these days. I think the last game was The Rise of the Golden Idol, which is a sequel to The case of the Golden Idol. If you really like puzzle games that are based around deduction (logically ruling things out until you have one remaining result) then these are super well made puzzle games, I can't explain the satisfaction I get when I've stared at a puzzle screen for ages and finally worked out what happened. Building a series of events, a timeline, from usually a moment frozen in time, working out who did what and what everyones motivations were, it's so good. Has that same kick that The Obra Din had.

I might just be depressed or something but I've been disappointed by so many games lately, it's actually really hard to find something I enjoy moment to moment. We summited in peak a few times, that was awesome. I think at 42 I've finally got bored shooting things. I'll make time to 100% things like the Talos Principle II though, for whatever reason my love for puzzle games never fades.

*edit* Oh and I'd say the Golden idol games are an easy 8/10, Peak is a good 9/10 if you have friends to coop with and can get a good blend of taking it seriously to get to the top, and being a bit silly. Coop games are hit and miss depending on who you play with. Blowing the trombone at your friend as they fall to their death screaming over comms is hilarious, frisbeeing them in the face is also a laugh. Getting past the final leg is so rewarding, the final climb is totally crazy.

<Snip lots of good stuff>
I'm 55 and had the same issue for years now. I've come to the conclusion, that it's not all me. ;) Most games are variations on a theme, with the same mechanics, tropes and tired gameplay loops. By the same token my patience has decreased to persevere with something that turns into a slog. When a game becomes that I don't consciously drop it i just don't pick it up again.

Like you I enjoyed the Idol games and am also enjoying shorter format games.

Back on topic; I've just finished Viewfinder which is an image manipulation puzzle game but in first person. Really good fun. 8/10.

Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty, 10/10, was perfect.

Engaging story, memorable characters and some great levels in there and the ending is spectacular.

Tiny Tinas wonderlands. 6/10

over quicker than i was expecting.
better than the crap that was BL3 at least, but felt more like dlc than a stand alone game.

Herdling - 8/10
Nice game where you heard sheep-like things around until you get to the end.
Very artistic, pleasant way to spend a day.
Only about 4 hours long so buy on sale. (not a complaint about length, just price)

Cronus - A New Dawn - 8/10

Very Dead Spacey, Resident Evil type inventory. Always limited with ammo, but seem to have just enough to progress.
Very jumpy in a few places, very atmospheric and ran perfect for me.

Really enjoyed this.

Hollow Knight. It has sat in my steam collection since 2017 with a total of 10 minutes playtime. So finally got around to playing it and have to say i really enjoyed it. Not quite my usual type of game but certainly a gem. A solid 7.5 and a big thumbs up for those that never got around to trying it out.

Liked it enough to get the new follow up Silksong, that one I am having a harder time with but it's got a lot of promise so far.

Dragonage Veilguard
If this wasn't billed as a Dragonage game, I would probably feel about it roughly the same as I do about Avowed - a middling, often fun enough cartoony action RPG with not that much depth.
I did quite often like the fighting. My reaper was fun to play a lot of the time, dropping necrotic pools, firing off shards of death, bouncing my shield around the battlefield. It was all fast-paced and generally smooth.

But, it was also annoying in parts - far too much dodging in some battles and the whole system felt pretty repetitive by the end.

I disliked the level design in general. It felt like it padded the gametime by forcing you to find hidden routes and also randomly blocking them off for quest with no in game explanation and seemingly only to make you find a long way around. Too many chests and their item upgrades locked behind irritating and unfufilling puzzles too. Along with its tendency to randomly and arbitrarily stop you from backtacking whenever it felt like it, it made exploration feel a real chore far too much of the time.

The writing mostly fitted the aesthetic palate, I thought - garish, broad-brush, often annoying and feeling it was generally pitched at teenagers. I did grow to quite like Emerich and I found his quest quite fun to follow through, but I don't think I can say that about many of the others. Lucanis was okay too, I guess.

Just a mediocre 6/10

Hollow Knight: Silksong - 8/10

This was so brutal that I would have given it a 1/10 because I wouldn't have been able to progress. Nexusmod's infinite health mod to the rescue! So I was at least able to see it all the way to the end. Even though the jumping sequences were still a total biatch, I was able to keep trying without worrying about dying and going back to the starting bench. Sunk about 90 hours in and got 87% completion.

For such a small team of people, they've crafted a masterpiece. Even though most people will never see half of it without a cheat.

Just played PEAK with my son..only a small game and cheap but great fun climbing to the top. Really needs to be played coop though to get the most enjoyment out of it. Only annoyance is having to start at the beginning each time when you die bit tough if you dont have the time for a straight playthrough

Last game I finished was MGS Delta, near perfect for a remake. 10/10 - Also ran flawlessly once I did a simple tweak in the config file :D

I'm on the last part now. It's pretty good for wannabe DS. I do think The Callisto Protocol is a way better game though - and obviously Dead Space :P
But this is pretty good for what it is, and I'm totally fine with that.
Also runs nicely for me too, just a quick stutter when starting an entire new full area, but then the entire area is fine after that. So it's basically once every X amount of time it takes to fully explore and finish that level. So it didn't bother me in the slightest!

You can turn down the difficulty when you first board the plane, it makes climbing a lot easier. Also the more you play with the better, when you reach the camps you can use the statue to resurrect dead team mates so you don't wipe, so if you can play with 4 of you it becomes significantly easier. Great game.

Clair obscur 7/10, decent enough rpg to get into, draws inspiration from ff7. Pretty, good music. You may or may not enjoy the storyline. Can get reptitive. Worth buying around £20 (I paid 23)

I paid £20 and just finished it. I gave it a 8.5/10 and thought it was a solid effort at a new IP. I enjoyed both the music and storyline :)

Shadow of tomb raider

7 out of 10, liked all the epic sections but won't be trying to get a 100% completion...
1 and 3 are definitely the strongest of the trilogy - although, credit where credit's due, the 2nd and 3rd playthrough of the 2nd game, surprised me and I liked it a lot more than the 1st time.
Either way, brilliant games, we couldn't of hoped for a better new take on them!

Love them all, but Rise of the Tomb Raider is the best one. imo.
