That’s unlikely to happen. Can we just sort out universal battery packs and automated swap stations first please, then I might be able to move to EV![]()
I don't need to go for a wizz. I just need to get my car fuelled up. I can't charge at home, so being able to fuel at close to the speed of filling my ICE car is a requirement. That’s unlikely to happen.
In practice a swap station isn’t really any faster than cars with modern 5C batteries because when you use a charger, you can go and do other stuff like going for a wizz.
You are required to stay in your car when using a swap station so you’d need to park up and go for a wizz ( or what else else you might want to do) after you’ve swapped.
They used to back in the day didn't they?why didn't petrol and diesel cars think of this great safety feature
oh right, they don't tend to violently explode and catch fire on a slight knock
The simple solution is to have a wizz (glory) hole in the car. That’s unlikely to happen.

In other news CATL have just unveiled a 12C battery which will basically kill off the concept of a swap station in cars.
Telling all passengers not to hit the big red button.... What a pointless 'innovation'
Yes because airbags are triggered by pressing a big red button......Imagine a teenager driving along and their mate pressing the eject button for laughs.
It is the 2025 version of yanking the handbrake!
A 5C battery gets you pretty close to that.I don't need to go for a wizz. I just need to get my car fuelled up. I can't charge at home, so being able to fuel at close to the speed of filling my ICE car is a requirement.
That’s the Amazon delivery driver edition? The simple solution is to have a wizz (glory) hole in the car.
The only places my car gets parked is on the street somewhere near my house (for values of 'near' that vary massively), or in the middle of nowhere well away from electricity supply.A 5C battery gets you pretty close to that.
The idea is you charge it when it’s parked somewhere which may or may not be outside your house.
In the long term, you’ll not be rapid charging cars for ‘daily use’. They’ll be slow charged when they are parked be that on the street or in a car park. It’s just so much cheaper to deploy.
You aren’t going EV any time soon so you don’t need to worry about it. ICE cars will be available for a couple of decades yet, they just won’t be new.The only places my car gets parked is on the street somewhere near my house (for values of 'near' that vary massively), or in the middle of nowhere well away from electricity supply.
I am not yet seeing any evidence of ANY progress towards a usable EV charging infrastructure for people without off-street parking.

I’m well aware, I’m also aware of how much these things cost and are largely being super seeded by the batteries themselves getting a lot better which is largely negating the need for it.Chinese have 3000 swap stations already, catering to mainly trucks, and some cars, they say it takes 5 mins to do the swap
It has its own pitfalls as well - like sometimes customers get a bad battery in the swap which doesn't have the mileage you'd expect. I think this is the biggest hindrance to swap stations in the west, because you'd have to guarantee a minimum mileage that is fairly close to a new battery

A new fully charged EV battery in five minutes: Are China's swap stations the future of electric cars?
China has been trialling battery swaps for electric cars for years. Are they a viable solution to range anxiety?www.bbc.com
Don't worry about other vehicles, cyclists or pedestrians nearby, a 500 pound battery flying towards them is of no concern
