The ending if you can even call it that, was pants. As was the last boss, if again you can even class it as one. I think it really fell down in the last section. Extremely padded out in that hotel too.
The DLC was awful, the first one, was fun for half an hour mindlessly shooting stuff, but essentially led to nothing. And the second DLC, was very poor.
For me the ending was fitting becuase of how it was...
about the journey rather than the destination. I intepreted it as a psychological allegory for the process of confronting and integrating trauma.
I saw Saga as someone who almost ended up in a similar psychological situation to Alan, but by uncovering what he had gone through she was strong enough to avoid it entirely, and as part of that helped Alan understand that he could get through his **** if he just kept trying.
There are many other plot points which expanded on this idea which I thought worked really well and didn't feel tacked on.
The true ending apparently see's Alan escaping his spiral, but imo it does't really need that to conclude this story. I haven't played the DLC's and don't plan to, mainly becuase I feel nothing really needs expanding on, in terms of either story or gameplay.

Fair points. But I think by doing that kind of ending, they're relying on the player to justify/make up the ending, and it goes down that patronising artsy nonsense that some films do, thinking they're smarter than the viewer etc. When in reality, they just didn't have an ending - I'm not saying that they have done this, your analogy makes perfect sense, but it's still a shame we have to imagine an ending it that regard.
I do agree it's about the grind, but still.
The way it just suddenly ended at that stupid water fountain - of which I'd predicted hours before the heavily dragged out hotel section, made for a VERY underwhelming ending and the last fight, was way too easy and again lacked any skill and took no time at all?
I kind of think they should have just made an entirely new story, that was just about Saga, solving crimes, all whilst loosing her mind about her kid, I'd definitely buy that. There was that good of a character/story arc, to reward making an entire game based on her.
I genuinely sighed everytime we had to leave her and do Alan's parts, as it's so predictable, and we know exactly what's going to happen, he's going daft, and fighting with his own mind, blah blah, yeah great. Where as Saga, and her story, was actually interesting, and we had no idea where it was going.
I played the game in quite long sessions so was able to absorb quite a lot and really get stuck into the story. If I had played it more casually over a longer period I probably wouldn't have taken to the story as well. I think it would have been nice to have the choice of a shorter main path while still hitting the main points of the story as that would have made it more accessible.
I have to disagree about relying on the player to make up the ending, everything is there to come to the conclusion that they want you to land at, but it demands you get really into it and read between the lines a bit. NG+ offers a more traditional ending, but I feel it's kinda irrelevant to the conclusion of the main story and doesn't add much.
When I got to being able to choose between Saga and Alan, I did all of Alan's parts first becuase I wanted to save Saga's parts for later. I found it more interesting playing as her too, all things considered.
I feel they needed to have the two playable characters in order to achieve what they did here, but I agree a story just focused on a character like Saga would be cool. Hard to beat playing as an FBI agent uncovering some wierd mystery, especially when the game looks great!.

I felt the last hour of the game was you just playing an interactive ending sequence, and the actual game ended on the beach. The last fight was indeed nothing too special, but the spectacle of the scene was entertaining for sure.

Yeah same with me, I completed it big chunks in a short space of time
I get what you're saying with the ending, I still think given how cinematic the rest of it was, or atleast the first half, it should have continued like that, versus me relying on reading stuff all the time - in general , I hate when games force you to read, versus having the option for it to be red to you, whilst you continue to play - especially when there's loads to read; I think it's very poor with games that do that. It's immersion breaking too.
Ah I never tried NG+. I have replayed about half of it, and got bored quick, you soon realise, how empty the world is, and the NPC's don't even know that you're there - once you replay it, knowing where to go, what to collect, it is a very sparse game, that purely relies on it's visuals to artificially impress you, which is pretty fake really when you think about it, as the first time you play it, you're just mainly impressed by the visuals, so it's a false positive.
If you replay it, you'll see what I mean.
Haha, I did it the other way round, I played all of Saga's parts till I ran out, then did Alan's, then I got to that part with Saga which concludes what happened to her lol.
Yeah, it's a shame that they cant really do a spin off, as what happens in AW2 clearly makes her career, and before that, she didn't really do anything exciting. Hmm maybe one set in the events after - doubt that would work though
Yeah, I think it should have ended on the beach. I thought that last fight was very poor, it took me I think 2 and a half minutes, which left we with an out loud "what the ****! Is that it!?" Then the credits rolled and I felt like they'd given us an unfinished game and decided to cap it there under some false cliffhanger for a sequel.
Yeah I feel like they just put NG+ in there to add value for those that want to get more out of it, it's kinda pointless otherwise.
I found myself thinking about the story after I'd finished it, trying to fill in the extra details in my head. I really like it when a story leaves an impression on me like that. Reflecting on it now, I'd go back and tell myself to just take my time more and absorb everything.
I can see why the story won't resonate with or be appreciated by everyone but, some convulution aside perhaps, I felt it was brilliantly done and I wouldn't change anything about the ending
On a surface level, the story is about Alan being stuck in a loop (manifesting in different forms) because he has immense struggles facing his traumas, he can't accept that there is no clear or immediate 'way out'. Once Alan realises (with Saga's help) that it's actually OK to revisit and struggle with the same trauma over and over, he breaks free of the loop and instead ends up in a spiral because he comes to terms with the fact that it'll just take time.
So by refraining from ending the game with Alan breaking free of his trauama (or succumbing to it), the message to the player is basically: it's OK not to be OK, and you don't have to end this story right now, you'll get there someday.
It's bittersweet to the extreme, but for me it works and is really unlike a story I've experienced in a game before it.

Just jumped back on Borderlands 3, playing as Fl4k. Just killing time for BL4 to get fixed enough to be playable but having a lot of fun with my pet Skag

Just started Borderlands 2 for my Borderlands fix. Gave up on System Shock Remake for the time being, as I forgot to save and had to go a long way back, felt lost, so will start again from the beginning later on down the line.
Just 4 runs so far and none of them are very long. Did manage to beat 1 boss (the roots/vine one) in the 2nd run and got to another boss (the teacher) and died and where i stopped.
I need to remember the mechanics from Hades 1 a bit, I miss able to finish it in around 20mins towards the end of my time with it.
p.s. It plays really well on the M4 Mac Mini base model !
Been playing The Lift: supernatural handyman simulator today, its still very early in development and currently a free playtest available on Steam.
Not so sure on the supernatural side of things at the moment but does seem to be a rather good first person puzzle game where you repair items to progress further in the game. Its worth a look if you have a couple of hours to fill it reminds me of another game but I cant think what. Bit of game play at the end of the trailer
Only issue is its a Russian dev team so some people may be a bit reluctant to give them money
I'm enjoying playing the original hollow knight at the momen, which is also quite challenging. Don't think I've got the patience (or time) to play an even harder game so probably won't play silksong.

Hades, surprisingly addictive. I almost cheesed it on my 4th round with the Doom ability (hit something then delayed damage, went from 80 to 200) but I messed up the last fight haha. I played for 10 hours straight yesterday!
edit: I'm not liking some of the grind aspect though. Dungeons could be a little more varied.
i played both DL1 and DL2, liked both, but not got The beast yet, because i thought it might be to much like DL2, and seeing it has a much smaller map than DL2, is it different enough for the price tag of £49.99 ? to me it should have been like a £20 dlc.
