The Arsenal Club Thread - In Memory of robfosters

Did any of you see how Liverpool played, they didn't have a touch in our box for ages in the first half and outside of the goal did very little either. It was an edgy encounter where both teams defended well and in numbers which was only won by a wonder goal. Stats wise it was very even, it was pretty clear from watching it it was pretty even but all everyone is saying is how poor Arsenal were. I'm by no means Arteta's super fan but away to Liverpool was never going to be an easy game regardless of how they started.

He purposely played to not score any goals by not playing anyone creative in midfield or on the left wing when he had 3 such players on the bench. Arteta ****** all Arsenal fans over

Yes he played it carefully first half but we still created much more than Liverpool that half. He brought on Eze and Odegaard in the second half and we didn't get much better. I wouldn't have started Martinelli as he's been so poor for a couple of seasons now and I would have not started with that midfield 3 either but it's 3 games in, we have a load of injuries and new players to bed in and were terrible against United. If we're no better in a few weeks then I'll start getting concerned but the media outcry and response from some Arsenal fans has been so over the top.

Thats the crazy thing, people getting all uptight because apparently Arsenal were too defensive but no one goes to Anfield and dominates for 90 minutes, we lost to a very good but also lucky goal that 99 times out of a hundred would have not gone in, and thats on top of multiple injuries and new signings not settled yet. I'm with you, its certainly not the time to be criticising Arteta, thats a big squad revamp. Lets see how they do as players come back and new players get up to speed.

And yet we still lost. How many times are we going to keep praising ourselves for XG, corners won, shots, defensive improvements, passes, dominating possession. It's all pointless if we don't win matches. Not even draw them. WIN. A draw would have been acceptable yeah but we constantly put ourselves in the position of being susceptible to a team having one shot, scoring and winning. The fact it was a wonder goal is an excuse to deflect the reality of our weak and highly conservative approach against many teams.
It would be easier to take if it wasn't the same for season upon season of disappointment. Arteta needs to take the reigns off and stop being petrified of conceding. Trying to keep clean sheets and winning games 1-0 does not work for us when we can't create enough chances. We should be more bold away from home and in the crunch games.

You know we have the best record against the top teams in recent years? I'm not sure it was a case of handbrake on rather than we played poorly and Liverpool contained us quite well. Its been 3 games and we've been awful in 2 of them. We have lots of exciting attacking talent to integrate now now so let's just wait and see if our gameplay changes.

Madueke out for 2 months now. It's ridiculous the amount of long term injuries we keep getting. Lucky Saka is back but would rather introduce him slowly.

Got a spare ticket to Olympiacos on the 1st for £50. Anyone interested?
I would've taken it but literally found one come up on ticketexchange this afternoon. I'm not having much luck in the ballots these days (failed again in the Palace one) so getting more tickets on the exchange than directly.

Ah I've not bought one from there before, always used to be really expensive when I've looked in the past. We've got tickets for 3 games so far through the ballot.

mega unlucky i guess dowman will get more minutes now as a sub again
Could be, I think the general consensus / media angle is that Arsenal have finally assembled a squad that should be able to cope with a few injuries and make no excuses. I think with Martinelli, Saka, Trossard, Nwaneri, Eze etc they have a point, if everyone was fit all season there would almost be too much competition for places on the bench and a bit of frustration at being left out when fit. From my perspective I think Saka has been a bit overplayed past 5 years, like it's very rare he gets rested so I welcome a bit more depth in the squad.

It's normal prices but often its just club level available which is why its £130+, it was like that the past week but I've kept checking back periodically and got one in upper tier for £60. For midweek games it's quite common people can't go and put their seats up for sale at random times as the matchday approaches.

So according to social media Arsenal are looking at expanding the Emirates and playing temporarily at Wembley. Makes sense as tickets are harder to come by than ever currently, just hope the Wembley usage isn't for too long
