*** The Official iPhone 17 thread (it has new camera bumps and everything!) ***

That a load of crap what if you didn’t have a phone that takes a SIM card. I be ringing back telling them you only got an air how can I put a sim card in it.

They’ll likely send you a new QR code to the “air” with a new number then transfer your old number to the new sim.

It’s a PITA but they’re getting better porting the numbers across. It’s usually same day now.

When I rang Mozillion, they asked a few security questions, like what my original order ID was for example (24 month deal), and then issued a new eSIM to my registered email address that I could add to the new phone straight away, so no more "allow 2 working days", "nah still not working", "try again" nonsense. It was initially a pain, but the security side of things is better, and you have more control over your phone number. I quite like it overall.

can anyone recommend a good screen protector. Ideally one that is good value too?
I use a Torras screen protector on my 15 pro max. It’s £20 for two so they aren’t the cheapest but I don’t mind paying the little bit extra than others as the Installation is simple with no dust or bubbles. Just put the frame on the phone and pull the tab

Got the air sorted. Out the box straight into the mous case (couldn’t find pitaka unfortunately)

Lovely bit of kit. Glad I went for this now instead of the pro. This feels heavier than my old 15 or am I imagining it.

Also got the eSIM sorted. Went in two minutes later walked out. All done.

It's basically the same weight

That’s a damn good point! Cheers.

Just tried ordering a replacement e sim, apparently it’s protocol that they have to send me a physical sim (because I don’t have access to my number to give them the security code) to which I can then transfer in to an e sim again!

What a load of tosh! 100% leaving sky mobile once I’ve got the sim.

Received and setup this morning.

Went from a 13 Pro Max with almost 100% used 128GB to 256GB 17 Pro Max.

eSIM transfer took ~3 mins.
iPhone then software update for ~15 mins.
Transfer from 13 Pro Max to 17 Pro Max ~22 mins.

Up and running in less than an hour, can't complain. Had to sign into banking apps and WhatsApp and that was it. Everything else logged in and working.

Very happy with it! Camera is excellent, notably the 8x zoom.

Im shocked to hear so many people having eSIM transfer issues.

I’ve now done android to android, android to iOS and iOS to iOS and every single time it’s been a couple of minute process using the built in transfer wizard.

The main reason I didn't get the 17PM was because I was looking at the new Android foldable phones with jealousy. I did think about getting one but I really like the Apple ecosystem so I figured Apple might very well release a foldable next year and buying two premium phones in a year is too much for me. I do like the look of the 17PM but I think I'll just wait it out.

Plus if a Mac Studio comes out with the M5 at some point next year I'd get more bang for my buck with that as I'm not a heavy mobile phone user and mainly use my desktop.

Just get a normal 17, doesn't sound like you need a PM?

I’m still using my 12 Mini, and intentionally haven’t upgraded just in sheer disgust at the gigantic weight and size of phones now.

Needless to say the iPhone Air was a welcome release. Trouble is, it’s still literally 25% heavier than the 12 Mini.

That’s not too crazy so I’m still in two minds weather to make the jump or not. Isn’t funny how everyone stopped needing to upgrade as soon as Apple was found to slow down phones to ‘maintain battery life’.

This five year old phone is still gloriously snappy. However, it’s always the version of iOS that will force an upgrade so probably only have a couple of years left.
