I hope he doesn't mean that. That's even crazier than taking it onto the plane with meI think he means send it to hold naked, but if that was possible, carbon would be too fragile to do that.

Personally, I wouldn't trust my bike in a cardboard box. Even soft cases, which some people love, I just wouldn't trust. He just had a big cardboard box he packed it into each time under his arm!
It fits in my car boot with one of the back seats down. Taxis in Spain are generally ready to take a bike box, especially in places like Mallorca and Girona/Barcalona.How do you find taking something so big in the taxi to/from the airport?
I get that, and I think there are cheaper ones than the one I chose, but I believe BikeBoxAlan are generally regarded to be the best. Given bike hire (of a similar bike) would be £200+ each time and I'll have used my bike box four times this year alone (I think it's 10 or more in total with the old box), it's still the financially sensible route to go. Also, I tend to see the cost of the box being what you pay, minus what you would sell it for and I think it till hold value reasonably well.I like the idea of taking my bike abroad by plane but struggle with the idea of spending a holiday amount on the box.
