Very few people are against immigration. But many people are now fedup with what seems to be uncontrolled immigration.
There's a LOT of noise about immigration in general, with no differentiation between illegal and legal immigration. As a prime example, Farage's latest desire to get rid of ILR - which is the legal settlement route.

Just to pick up one one of your points.

Firstly, illegal boat migrants don't get given phones.

They get less than £10 a week if they are provided with food at their accommodation.

If they don't get food, they get less than £50 a week.

We can't exactly leave them to starve, otherwise they will turn to crime.
Having helped repair around 100 cycles for migrants and been to some of the HMOs in our area dropping off aid packages, as someone else has already pointed out, Charities and (even the companies running the HMOs) supply mobile phones on request.. (And many bring over their own phones)

I've seen all this first hand, I've been inside the converted Hotels/HMOs and seen that some of the places were very well supplied, snacks, treats, entertainment, TVs, games consoles etc.. It's not about who is providing it, it's provided in many cases..

My point is, removing the ability to illegally work isn't going to make life intolerable for them, they'll work cash in hand if they need to and nothing is going to stop that...

Completely disagree with this Digital ID crap.

First of all, It wont do a bloody thing to curb illegal immigration...how they even think this was a good valid "Excuse" to bring them on us is laughable.

Secondly, Hackers would have an absolute field day getting access to that sort of Data, Before you know it doctored clones of Digital ID cards will be made.
The UK is truly becoming North Korea at this point, Things like this shouldn't be able to just be passed through this quick without NUMEROUS Mp Debates (with a full house present! Not 90% empty like they usually do when it comes to serious debates) and votes from the people first.

Cannot wait for Starmer and his Gestapo party to be kicked out when the time comes so can get this country back on track.

@Sinbad2000 you come across as one of these Sovereign citizens tbh
wtf lol
The sovereign citizen movement (sometimes abbreviated as SovCits) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sovereign_citizen_movement#cite_note-living-1" is a loose group of anti-government activists, conspiracy theorists, vexatious litigants, tax protesters and financial scammers found mainly in English-speaking common law countries—the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand.

I'd say my arguments are the opposite of that, and most of the anti-ID people seem to fit in there quite nicely...?

I agree there needs to be more separation between legal and illegal. However, many people are also fed up with excessive legal immigration. A quick ChatGPT check (not the most reliable of sources admittedly) shows between 8 to 10 million people immigrating into the UK in the last 10 years. That is arguably excessive and has a very big impact on the country. Not everything should be measured in pure financial terms.

This also yet further increases risk upon the individual and population with regards to security and cyber security.

Just more risk management and mitigation processes that will need to be paid for and had.

But surely it’s all good news and the grown ups in charge will be all over the detail on how it’s going to be safe and not negatively impact society and life

From fullfact.org, Based on ONS administrative data, annual net migration between 2012 and 2024 totalled an estimated 4.68 million.

The UK has not proven itself capable of providing the skills needed in the volumes required for the NHS and other key services. If not for immigration, those services would be even deader than they are already.

Perhaps we should take this to the immigration thread in Speakers Corner. I don't want to derail this thread on ID cards.

What track are you wanting to get back on? The one the Tories have had it on for the previous 12 years?
People share all sort of information online in much less secure environments and seemingly don't think twice about it. The NHS keeps medical records on us all. Do you want to stop that also?

I find it odd that the people who are generally loudest about stopping immigration, legal or otherwise are so vehemently against quite sensible measures to do so. In this digital age I can only see ID cards are a natural progression and a sensible gateway to being able to claim benefits whether that be financial or healthcare. Maybe they can even combine with DVLA and save some money.

Personally I'm surprised we haven't had this for years.

It's really quite silly to repeat the Farage tropes about the UK and North Korea. For a start hardly anyone has been to NK to know what it's like. Perhaps you would like to go and visit on our behalf and report back on the similarities / differences.

Surely if this was actually about stopping illegal immigration, that would be an easy win? Stop free healthcare and benefits, then you remove at least one of the incentives of coming here?
If it's not even going to pretend to prevent the parasites leeching off of the NHS and the benefits system then **** it, I've changed my mind. They can shove it where the sun don't shine.
