Poll: DIGITAL ID - It's coming *** NO GENERAL POLITICS TALK - ONE AND ONLY WARNING ***

Are you for or against the new Digital ID

  • Total voters
    395
  • Poll closed .
they make sense for EU members because national ID cards can be used instead of a passport to travel around Schengen
so people don't generally need to get a passport. also it's a physical card, or at least the swiss one is, I'm pretty sure it's more there version of NI/social security card but it also has photo..

we also used to have them but some judge decided it was infringing of people liberties or whatever.

but then they are something entirely different than what we will end up with and they offer no real benefit other than harvesting data of your phone etc, the app could try to access your GPS in the background or anything else.
are people happy if the app wants access to your mic, gps, photos, files and other stuff? there's 0 reason it even has to be an app... it could be a QR code instead that people can look up on a system

maybe the gov just blackmail apple and google into letting the app basically be a full on trojan... they already want peoples messages, yet some people trust the gov and think its a good idea.

Digital ID is the new DNA, except they are demanding everyone provide a sample on a continuing basis.

changing from citizens into cattle.

Anyone who doesn't see the digital ID being tied in to everything you do on the internet is honestly a mug, it's the only way they can get around VPNs and keep the children safe.

your privacy has to disappear because that's easier than parents being parents.

6months later, oh digital ID isn't doing enough, we have to get rid of physical currency to make it really work...

some MPs already been framing it as "not a one stop solution" so they are already greasing your cheeks for entry.

At this point Starmer might as well just tattoo numbers on our left forearms....
Anyone with any connection to the holocaust will find this comment deeply offensive.

I visited the auschwitz camp some 80 years after it closed and I have no words which can adequately describe the experience. After you’ve seen it with your own eyes, you’ll never forget seeing it.

On the contrary, ignoring that Digital ID has the potential to be abused, such as technology was abused in the holocaust, is also offensive.

I've also been to Auschwitz and seen how things were streamlined, and how simply being identified by that regime as belonging to a group led you on to a production line of death.

What's stopping you getting a cheap android phone, putting it on there, turning it off and sticking it in a draw with the battery removed?

I'm 100% against it.

The illusion of democracy petition is almost at 1.7 million now, still a bit to go to match the numbers who wanted to revoke Brexit a few years ago (~16 million?), but for ~48 hours it should be making Kier and the Labour MPs question this whole idea that's been pushed by Blair for years after the failed attempt while he was PM.

I think youre incredibly foolish if you believe they'll question it. Our government are so utterly arrogant that they care nothing for what we, the people, actually think.

Nothing currently.

However, it's already been slipped out that it will be used for tracking state provided childcare. It will be drip fed over time, bit by bit until you HAVE to have it with all the time otherwise life will be incredibly inconvenient and uncomfortable without it. Why the hell wouldn't they do this?!

Just like with the planned disability benefits, Kier will u-turn if enough Labour MPs kick up a stink about BritCard {cringe} and threaten to vote against the Bill, whenever it's introduced after the consultation period... If that happens in time before the expected 2029 General Election!

For a bit on context, Blunkett announced an ID plan in 2005, it barely got off the ground by 2010 having had ~£5Bn spent on it before the Tory/Libs coalition ditched it promptly.

I've not seen much Labour MP discontent so far, but BBC is my main news outlet and their choice of "big stories" is getting odder by the day IMO.

I worked pancake
in principle I have no problem with an ID card. I would even go so far as a genetic profile taken at birth and put on it but on the condition it was locked down.
however in practice given the historic absolutely inept way our data has been leaked and hacked (hell not always needed to be hacked, remember the toss pot who left a CDROM full of personal data unencrypted in the back of a taxi?)
I don't actually trust the government to do it securely and not leak the data to bad actors or insurance companies.

so as I type I think I am more against , not out of a belief of it being malevolent , but just because the government (all of them not just this one) are inept and will screw it up
