EV general discussion

It's a shame they let the ugly kid in the class copy their homework - the Nissan Micra of all things!

I think it looks fantastic tbh. The Micra has finally grown from being that crap little hatchback that holds you up 20mph under the speed limit everywhere and takes 27 business days to pull off from a red, to a funky little EV that will probably help save Renault and Nissan from the chopping block. They're not hiding the fact it's based on the 5 at all, rather embracing it, and I reckon it's gonna sell rather well.

Quick question, is it fairly normal for the battery % to change by 3-5% after parking up for a while? For example yesterday I did a 120 mile journey, got home with 50% battery, put it on charge in the evening after a few hours and it was at 45%, same after my commute, I sometimes see 3-5% difference plus or minus.

I assume this is just the BMS re calculating after the car has cooled/warmed?
No, I've got noticed that in either the Q4 I had or the current i4.

The 1992 K reg 1.0 litre four speed that was my first car would like a word! :D

I learned to drive in a Micra :D. You might remember your first but that doesn't make it your best ride ever ;).

Perhaps I'm being unfair, it's not that bad looking and they will sell loads. It could have been worse, it could have been a miniature Jpuke!

The mot I’ve ever seen was a 1% swing after parking up from a long journey that used half the battery, and when I came back 4 hours later it the air temp had dropped significantly.

Sounds like you’ve got some dodgy sensors somewhere.

The EV micra looks nothing bland of the sort!

It is a generic EV style hatchback with some funky lights - about as interesting as a washing machine, seems pretty bland to me, the previous model was much more interesting looking.

yes it's a hard sell for puma versus r4/5/micra - the better value/looking, stellantis frères
can uk nissan employees still get a micra employee purchase deal nonetheless.

Bit of both was spending around £60-£80 a week on fuel and do around 500 miles a week.

Are you home charging? This is where we're at too. Our petrol bill is ridiculous, would love to get an EV for this purpose but don't have the ability to charge at home, rather annoyingly. We also do around 500 miles a week, spending about the same as you.

Yes I’m home charging on Octopus intelligent go 7p KWh.

For some quick figures - my old 2016 E class would do roughly 750 miles on a 66 litre tank, costing about £120 a tank depending on prices (worst ever was £150 when all I could get was shell premium in 2022)

In summer I can get 250 miles from my Polestar which would cost about £5 in off-peak electric from my charger, making it £15 for the same mileage.

In the 5 hours cheap overnight I can add about 100 miles of range, and we have two EV’s in the house so it can take a bit of thinking and planning as to who is doing what but the fuel savings are massive.

It'll be interesting to see, because in my experience the main Micra customer base isn't wanting an EV, maybe it'll appeal to a new customer base.

I spend far too much time in the Nissan dealership near me and when I'm sitting there waiting I've seen over half a dozen older people come in wanting to replace their Micra then leave disgruntled when they find it has been chopped for an EV and similar story for friends and family. Ironically a lot of them probably have their own drive and never go far from home so perfect EV territory.

So the issue isn’t about the car appearance. Just that it’s an EV.

Ironically, petrol is about a cheap in real terms as it can been for a long time right now.

It’s as ‘cheap’ now as it was back in 2013 and cheaper than 2012. Then factor in how much wage inflation there has been since then.

Two different conversations.
You said it’s not popular based on one dealer and elderly not wanting EV.

Thats not about its appearance is it. So why you using that as a proof point for your opinion. Also why are you in the dealer so much ?
