*** Microsoft Windows 11 Thoughts & Discussion Thread ***

I'm seeing a few people on reddit saying that they are running the IoT version of Windows 11 as a daily driver, think I'll be sticking where I am for now, but the next reinstall will be LTSC, dont think dualboot or any Ubuntu or whatever will work for me, and then probably look at not using MS Office, Libre or something like that perhaps..

What browser is my next thought though, Edge, debloated with all of the telemetry off, but does that still report stuff to MS if you are logged into an MS account?
Or move to Brave or something else, I used Firefox for a while but then started to move everything into Edge when that first came out as I was using multiple machines and OneDrive is kinda useful...

Moving away from MS is a PITA lol

That's the way they like it as they are hoping you will say "sod it, ill just stay on Edge"

tbh after they stopped trying to enforce their own engine, and went down the Chromium route its been fine, but the phone home stuff is getting a bit much these days...

Since the days of XP, I've always tried to use the best edition I can get my hands on. For example, Windows XP Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8.1 Enterprise and Windows 10 Enterprise. I find you get a lot more control over your own computer this way.

As for web browser, I've been using Firefox for quite a long time. So long in fact, I can't remember which version I ditched whatever browser I was using before it - I'm certain the version number was in single digits though.

I find that people treat web browsers like fashion - they just roll with whatever seems the coolest or fastest at the time. I prefer stability and control, while not having telemetry doling out my data to whoever wants it.

Yeah, I'm thinking Brave or Firefox, used that for ages until I started using Edge for convenience, now everything MS does seems to be leaky so I'm moving back the other way.
Might ditch office as well, and either go back to an older version thats not leaky, or Libre, I have been using Microsoft Office stuff since I moved from Dataease, Lotus123 and Wordperfect though so not sure how I'll transition to Libre :D

Been using Firefox from day 1, will remain that way until the very last day.

25H2 installed via windows update today, pending restart currently.

Hmm 25H2 has fixed a bluetooth quirk with 24H2 whereby a games controller could not be removed as a bluetooth device even when not connected but just there as a paired device. Neat.

I checked Windows Update last night and today, still no new updates, cant see new 25H2 feature update on both my desktop and tablet. Strange.

I am on latest 24H2 build version 26100.6725, KB5065789 was the last update installed.

I wonder what update you installed today? Is it KB5054156? I tried downloaded 25H2 ISO from Microsoft and updated it on both desktop and tablet today but both showed it still on 24H2 build version 26100.6725. I will try download 25H2 build from uupdump to get KB5054156 file and test install it on tablet first to see if it will change to 25H2 build version 26200.6725.

Not sure if it is just MS verifying their own system, but I just did a load of updates including 24H2 preview and Visual Studio, etc. and then got a pop up saying "Microsoft Defender Antivirus would like to check the following files to see if they are safe" and asking me to submit files from their own updates...
