Road Cycling

Picked up the bike frame, lovely guy and said he hopes to open a shop in 6 months. Glad i got him to install the headset bearings. Seemed a tricky job and i'm sure i wouldn't have been as precise. He even asked me which side i wanted a bit of writing on the exposed bit. I'd have had it at a random angle!

Just waiting on the rest of the bits now. Annoyingly i'd bought a cassette/chain combo and not realised and then bought another chain!

Very cool machining here

Weight my bike in it's current state and it came in pretty much bang on 10kg. Reckon this will likely end up around 11kg which feels hefty, although i've certainly not aimed for weight saving. This frame is 2.2kg in a size XL, and the suspension fork is quite heavy along with hefty 50mm tyres.

Think my bike was around 7.5kg when i first built it up, so i've added quite a bit onto it! Be interesting to see the difference side by side.

I've parked by new bike idea, I'll wait until xmas/january when sales drop for some good deals :)

I can make-do with the boardman when it's setup to my saddle height and if not I've still got the ribble steel to ride around on!

went out for a first ride in weeks yesterday, everything hurts today.. lol.

Waiting for deals is probably sensible, even towards Black Friday would probably have made sense. I'm an impatient git though.

I tried to go for a run on Wednesday and it was basically up the hill and then hammering back down again. My quads are ruined. It's definitely a reason to maintain consistency!

Very annoying. Was rummaging through a bike toolbox I have. Mainly stuff that’s not used much like old cranksets from bikes I’ve turned electric or broken bits/bolts.

Some DOT fluid had leaked in the sandwich bag and so I threw the bottle away as I bought it as a “maybe I’ll need it” but generally get bike shops to service them.

Was changing forks yesterday and managed to open the hose and leaked a load. Now I need to buy a new bottle for a tiny bit.

Annoyingly I tried a ride this morning but the front brake is gone. I then accidentally pressed it and it didn’t release so I had half the ride with the front brake rubbing and so sacked it off early.

Thoughts on this. I bought a fancy integrated stem/handlebar, but it's clearly aimed for more aero looking bikes. The top cap for the headset tapers to fit a regular style spacer and when fitting the spacers that came with this stem i can't decide if it looks wrong.

Can't decide whether to return it and replace with a more normal style stem/bar setup (from Aliexpress so returns are generally pain free, but any replacement will take a while and delay any rides. I do have some spare bars and tape i could use in the meantime i guess but a bit of a hassle)

Yeah. I wanted to like it so that i could get out on the bike and use it, but it just doesn't work at all.

It's annoying that carbon handlebars from main brands are so expensive vs Chinese ones as i just can't justify the price variance to get something sooner.

I'd just get a set of nice ali ones I got zipp service course xplr ones for my boardman made out 7k ali and it's good, nice shape too - flat tops which was my main reason for changing. And they're very light..

Yeah, wanted carbon "because". Problem being you order it and then have to wait ~10 days for delivery. A shame really that this one looks weird as it feels pretty nice

Although i might just order the Redshift one and be done with it

think if you dumped the spacers, cut the tube and slammed it, it'd probably be okay.. the spacers make it look worse than it is because they're designed for aero frames.. just take them out, slam it and have a look.. - without cutting the steerer tube.

Nah, it'd then make the whole thing really uncomfortable i think.

I'm gonna stick with it until the new one arrives, then it might look decent on my other bike if i end up not sending it back. It's the lack of integrated top cap bearing which i think lets it down. If the top cap of the step fit nicely then it wouldn't be an issue

Made the most of a free afternoon yesterday. I think my weather app was showing it as 17°C and it's almost October! It was a lovely afternoon for a pootle. An hour or more after I got home and I noticed my rear was flat. I think maybe I picked up something cycling in the rain on Sunday, that then hammered itself in and through. It's off how often that happens to me... I ride just fine, then an hour or more later and I see I have a flat...

Then, as the wheel will need to come off, I figured I'd have a test run off packing the BBA EasyFit. Yep, just pedals off, wheels off and in it goes! Well, I realised I would need to lower the seat a little, but wow, so much easier!

My 76p di2 hood button adapters arrived yesterday. I still can't quite get my head around how they can ship an empty packet that cheaply from China let alone an actual product. They fit nicely and as others have suggested, make a big difference. The "clickability" of the buttons is about 3x better now.

That's very cool

Found some spacers lying around and refitted my old integrated bar/stem but at least it's less aero. Weirdly it still looks wrong whereas i never thought it looked wrong on my old bike! Will do a job for now though until i decide on a long term set of bars. Main concern is the long reach, but at least i can experiment and see how it feels for now. Maybe see if any sales come up around Black Friday

(Yes, i know the suspension fork is the wrong way around!)
