Sounds like you all need to move to Spain :p

yeah the stem makes it look odd too.. being that high also adds to the "ugly" factor..

I'd just ditch the idea unless you /don't/ mind the look - clearly not the case.. functionally I'm sure it's okay.

My 76p di2 hood button adapters arrived yesterday. I still can't quite get my head around how they can ship an empty packet that cheaply from China let alone an actual product. They fit nicely and as others have suggested, make a big difference. The "clickability" of the buttons is about 3x better now.
Yeah, mine came this morning, which was much quicker than I expected. A shame as I have a quick spin yesterday, now I'll need to wait to the weekend to test them.

Just been for a ride and realised that I didn't use the hood buttons a single time :p

Guess I usually use them when I am doing a route I am not super familiar with to switch between map and stats screens.

Still annoys the crap out of me that Garmin won't let you map your hood buttons to so many things. You can't say "double click to go to screen 2" and other such complex actions. Ridiculous.

That i definitely can't get away with!
Haha, I still have a Neo OG just sat in a box from 3+ years ago. It was heavily repaired so I should test it for accuracy & then flog it. Had an FluxV1 but knew that inaccurate dumped it with a load of other spares at local community bike hub/recycling place. So yeah about 2 years ago I actually had more smart trainers (3) than bikes (2)! My ratio is the opposite now 2:3

Picked up the bike frame, lovely guy and said he hopes to open a shop in 6 months. Glad i got him to install the headset bearings. Seemed a tricky job and i'm sure i wouldn't have been as precise. He even asked me which side i wanted a bit of writing on the exposed bit. I'd have had it at a random angle!
Frame looks really really nice! Love the welding... One thing I'd absolutely LOVE to have a Ti/Steel frame is for that, the engineering and quality of it from such frame builders is really reassuring and facinating. I've only tried welding a few times and it is such a hard thing to play around at, needs a lot of skill mastery and experience to make it look like that!

Waiting for deals is probably sensible, even towards Black Friday would probably have made sense.
Most bike deals tend to be 'end of season' to make way for the new ranges and for most that is the autumn which does coincide with BF. What are the couple of big bike shows? Eurobike and... Interbike but that stopped before Covid, was there another? Always used to be those dates the new season bikes got announced then the 'Off-season' tended to start in September for Pro Cyclists, so you'd have an idea what last season models really got changed so would find good sales on current models to shift remaining inventory to make way for the new ones to be sold ahead of the next season start in January.

Some DOT fluid had leaked in the sandwich bag and so I threw the bottle away as I bought it as a “maybe I’ll need it” but generally get bike shops to service them.
Always the way! The amount of bar switching around you've done quite lucky that's only the first time!

If it's anything like the Mineral for Shimano buy in volume. 1L cost me £12 when the little 'top up' 100ml ones I'd bought before had kept creeping up in price, even now they're £9.99 and the 1L is £14. I was pretty careful the 100ml would last me 3-4 of full bleeds and I would half-reuse some of it if not too discoloured... But now it's that cheap I don't care, always putting completely fresh in.

Although dot is hydroscopic isn't it? So has limited shelf life? Or ok if the bottle seal is good?

don't use imgur.. we got it blocked to protect the kids from cat memes :)
It says 'Content not viewable in your region' for me but I am behind a pretty beefy firewall at work (although I'm allowed more than most others!)

I don't mind the look, although it's still not great. I'm only using this bar/stem because i have it spare. Will help give me a better idea on reach though.

Yeah, the welds are really good. I've never tried welding but it's something i'd like to try as there's been some things i've made with wood where i think a metal frame would've been better. Turns out he actually designs/prototypes them himself but then gets them built in Taiwan, said it would be at least double the cost otherwise. Doesn't particularly concern me.

Dot does have a limited shelf life, but from what i've read it's massively blown out of proportion for the impact in cycling. The concern is that water reduces the boiling point and causes issues under braking after a long time, but it's BP is ~250C initially and water is 100C so any small absorption of water and impact will be minimal even over many years. Least i have 2x Sram bikes now so any bleeds can just be a €10 bottle for both even if i then disgard anything left.

Comes in at pretty much bang on 10kg without bar tape but with a rubbish old saddle i had lying around. Around 1kg less than i expected which is nice, especially since i added the Redshift suspension seatpost which isn't light.

Have it all built up now (exc bar tape), I had some old unsure Aliexpress stuff which i was going to do myself to get the bike out for a few test rides, but the dot oil got into the plastic packaging and it's been absorbed by the tape, and no amount of trying to clean it is getting rid of it. Don't really want to use the super expensive Ergon stuff i bought until i've settled on handlebars.

Chain is running really rough though. Need to try and work out what's causing that and might see if the framebuilder is willing to spend a bit of time with me checking it over. Also need to shorten the brake hoses, but want to avoid doing that too much until i decide on a final handlebar!

That looks a bit comical, sorry. You do seem to have a habit of buying odd-shaped handlebars  !

The bars looked fine on the old bike :p

They'll do a job until i get a few miles under my belt and can decide what kind of reach/width suits the bike. Likely go with the Zipp Xplr 70 as they have built in sections for blips whilst in the drops which is pretty cool

It'll look beautiful eventually!

Least my Ican will go back to being an actual road bike and i'll belong in here (even though it's actually a gravel frame with 40mm tyres...) Unsure whether to stick the 28mm tyres back on it

Might be a NBD today...Did my first 70.3 last month and want a TT bike to really crush some cycle routes, local charity has a Giant Trinity Advanced Pro TT 2018, sram etap etc so its a nice model.. all bikes are donated and then serviced, and then the proceeds of sales go to Cyclists Fighting Cancer.

In my eyes, i'm just donating to charity right, RIGHT?? Good deed with a slight incentive :)

Sounds like a perfect reason.

First time bleeding brakes last night. Glad i don't have carpet too based on the amount of DOT fluid which ended up on the floor! Annoyingly i got excited to try my new air compressor to refit some tyres on an old wheelset for that bike, but the coupler that came with the compressor doesn't seem to fit the hose i bought. Means i can't tell if it was a success

Signed up for TrainerRoad. With darker times approaching which will potentially result in more time on the turbo i figure it makes sense to get some structured riding in.

Not too sure about their initial assessment though...

Also not entirely convinced by the AI plan either. Whilst i've been light on training recently and can understand not wanting to overload things too early on, i put in the Traka event in May 2026 and it's basically just told me i should do 3x 1hour intense sessions a week between now and then!

Do you not tell it how many hours a week you can dedicate to your training?

The summaries are always blowing smoke as well. "You're a powerhouse! A handsome, intelligent powerhouse. Your w/kg of 2.3 makes women go weak at the knees".

No, that was the weird thing. There was a bit where i chose a "Balanced" plan, and maybe moving that to something more intense would've added sessions. I had just assumed that related to intensity of sessions.

Still not sure how 3hrs a week is meant to get me ready for a ~24hr event!

EDIT - Managed to find a bit to increase the number of days and with the aggressive plan option i'm now closer to the start of the plan being in line with where i'm currently at. Seems that the plan should also readjust as it builds data and a lot of the "scanning history" doesn't really actually get factored into the plan.

Looking at a new bike computer my old mio is not supported anymore and can't even connect to pc for track imports or extracts.

Garmin edge explore 2 but only one years warranty

Or

Wahoo bolt V2 or V3 which has two years warranty

Diff pros and cons, am leaning towards the Garmin for hopefully longevity of support and more third party connections and tools

I'd personally go with the Garmin, but i wouldn't do it for the support. I'd say Garmin are pretty awful at support and dropping new features for devices that're only 12 months old. It can be very frustrating given the high purchase price.

They are a hardware company, not a software company. They generate revenue from people buying new units with new tech. Pretty standard.

I don't have an issue with that.....as much (and to be fair, they have rolled back some new features into past generations), it's more the leaving the old stuff in a bit of a state while focusing more on the new stuff. I should want to buy a new device for the new features etc, not because the older units are so bug ridden.

True, i guess i'm comparing to something like Apple with the Iphone. As long as the hardware is capable then you get all the same functionality as the newer models, with the new stuff having more because the hardware is better. Garmin treat you like a king for 12 months and then forget about you.

I'd still buy Garmin again. I think they make great products most of the time which (generally) are better than the competition, and they do seem to be making some inroads on the software side to make things less frustrating.
