What film did you watch last night?

Heads of State 7/10

Ok this movie is dumb - incredibly dumb in fact but OMG is it fun. Idris & John work well together and the supporting cast seem to be really enjoying themselves. The bad guys are one dimensional villains but you know what, I didn't care! Great entertainment.

The Long Walk - 6/10

By its name it sounds boring, some guys going on a walk, lol. But also very interesting story from Stephen King. Very touching and gut wrenching in places. Decent watch, but not one I'd watch again any time soon.

Old Guard 2 3/10

I quite enjoyed the first one but this felt like a step back. The fact it's incomplete doesn't help it, like half a film. What a stupid decision.

Fantastic 4 (4/10)

Weak CGI, poor casting and a bit of a lazy story.
You thought the cgi was weak? It has some of the best detail and some stuff you can't even really tell is cg.

I liked all the cast apart from Pascal, however didn't find him as annoying as usual.

It wasn’t the worst I’ve seen; a lot more polished than some others, but Johnny’s fire and some scenes with the baby, especially CGI on CGI, was noticeably off.

The main cast lacked personality. Pedro tried too hard, he sounded like he was reading his lines. It felt like they tried to get away from the humour that Marvel movies usually have, but lacked the actors to display that level of seriousness. Very lazy movie.

Silver Surfer was cool.

Brazil (1985)

I remember it being a thing around the time I was leaving school. But it certainly wouldn't have weaseled a cinema visit from me in those days, not when I could go and watch Commando with Arnie.

Any how, we managed about 75 minutes before my wife wanted to turn it off. To be fair I probably would've stuck with it, but up to the point we turned it off it wasn't exactly tripping the boner valve. I can't ever think of an absurdist film I've enjoyed, so I doubt I would've rated it very highly anyway. I may try and watch the rest when my wife is out, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Weapons 7/10

Watched this over a couple of nights and after a pretty slow start, it developed into a pretty decent watch.

Didn't get any jump scares but one or two scenes were a bit gruesome.

I have a vague recollection of watching that years ago. It was pretty crazy. Didn’t really make a whole lot of sense a lot of the time. Much like you, I might rewatch it when the wife is out, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

Urchin. 6/10.

I could see the film was well made, and I liked some of the supporting cast, but overall I left feeling a bit disappointed. Maybe I was meant to.

This film is a straight up 10/10 film for me. I absolutely loved it.

All the absurdity and humour of Catch 22 (my favourite book), mixed in with the dystopia of 1984, supported with absolutely brilliant visuals.

Yes, yes, yes, yes… and more yes.

I won’t spoil it for those that haven’t seen it, but Robert DeNiro’s role is just *chef’s kiss*

Triangle (2009, amazon prime) Saw a clip of it on Facebook and thought it looked interesting. A time loop thriller/horror/suspense thing, group of friends get in trouble at sea and end up on a ghost ship looping around in time. Quite interesting, nothing outstanding , no big names. 6.5/10

I was at a friend's and he started watching Primitive War. Dinosaurs and Vietnam Era soldiers? Right up my street. Sadly, I only had 30 minutes to watch before adult responsibilities dragged me away.
This is a movie I have wanted to watch for ages but they've totally screwed the release up. It's been out in the US and Australia for about 2 months or so but so hasn't got a date for a UK release. In the meantime, it's now on VOD, which is how my friendly pirate mate got his copy.
It's a shame for the movie makers because the production quality looks great, to be fair.
I'll be renting it when it's eventually available.
