Samsung Odyssey G7 40" 5K2K

45" LG OLED new could have been had for £1400 new months ago and I believe now its back in stock - then a similar price with discounts. A secondhand 45 inch 5K OLED have gone for under £1300 recently on auction sites. One thing to note the warranty is NOT transferrable if you buy used...
Still too rich for me. I've bought the monitor in the op now, with discounts got it for £580 and as an extra bonus free next day delivery, so it's coming some time tomorrow hopefully

Would be good to know your opinion on it. I think the size/ratio would suit me better than the 45".

You'll get yours before me then as DPD totally ****** me over yesterday and now I have to wait until Monday.

Received today and up and running.

First impressions are very good. Size, resolution and aspect ratio are absolutely perfect for me, as I knew they would be.

Image quality is excellent and the curvature is pretty much perfect for my viewing distance.
Note that, despite an advertised curvature of 1000R, this screen is not a section of a circle but instead has a tighter curvature in the centre and less at the sides. It works well though.

The panel looks pretty good to me. I was concerned/interested with the move to VA as I've typically chosen IPS but the colour reproduction looks as good as my old IPS Alienware.
One area VA suffers in a bit compared to IPS is off-axis backlight leakage and you can see this with such a large panel when you move your head around but, in everyday use, it's not that noticeable.
HDR is pretty meh at only HDR600 but frankly I don't really care.

Yes I know it's never going to get anywhere near an OLED for contrast and colour reproduction but then an OLED won't compete on text clarity or image retention so it all depends on your use-case.

All in all it's pretty much perfect for me. If and when a similar size/res/aspect IPS Black panel monitor arrives then I may well consider switching but, until then, it'll more than suffice and it's a bargain at £700!

Finally got it set up and I'm pleased with it.

It's a big monitor and and compared to my old Dell 32" takes up a fair bit of desk space (I can see a monitor arm being the next purchase)

The curve is more pronounced than on the Dell, but for this size of screen it probably warrants it.

It's great for productivity. I do CAD work, so can get two windows side by side on the screen no problem.

Games on it look great. I fired up Wuchang, and with my 4070Ti it runs great. I was getting about 90FPS with most of the settings still on high from before and with DLSS enabled. Everything looked really smooth, and the environments look great. Can't comment on the HDR as I've not messed around with those settings yet.
