*** The official Apple Watch {all gens} (and Watch Ultra [all gens]) thread ***

Gmail has never worked for me, I’ve given up with notifications and forward everything to my iCloud address. Notifications from that are very prompt.
Seems to be working now, before to test I was sending an email to myself using my own gmail account. Ordered a Pizza from Dominos and the order confirmation email showed up on my watch when I checked for mail.

So then I sent an email from my new iCloud account to my gmail account and that showed up on the watch too. Still well worth having the iCloud email account as I say had no gmail recovery account before and wasn't interested in a Microsoft one.

I'm not really bothered about having emails pushed to me as soon as they arrive, gmail on my Samsung Galaxy S25 does this anyway.

Whelp I have done it and sold my Ultra 2 this morning and ordered a Series 11 in Titanium which is coming Thursday. I have been relegated to using my old Series 4 to tide me over. This thing is tiny compared to the Ultra on my wrist, but I can’t barely feel it on there. Anyone else have a Series 11 ?

Yeah, bought a 46mm Titanium Series 11, never had a watch before so dont really have a frame of reference, but I'm happy with it. Was easy to setup on EE as an extra device, the plan I'm on allows it to be added for no extra cost.

Well I spoke to soon, today ordered another pizza from Dominos and noticed the order confirmation email didn't arrive on my watch until I had checked for email several times. So then I sent one from my iCloud email to gmail and that didn't arrive either until I'd checked for mail several times.

Sent a couple from my gmail to iCloud email and they showed up straight away every time. So it does indeed look like there is some kind of problem with gmail when checking on a watch.

Such a faff to get 5G working on the watch if you’ve carried over a previous mobile plan on EE.

The watch needs a 5G Standalone addon to connect to 5G, which most of their customer support people don’t know how to add or you get them saying their manager says they don’t support 5G on the watch yet.

Finally got it sorted by getting them to add a new watch plan to my account and cancel the previous one.

I was wondering if I could just get a cheap eSIM deal and whack it on my Ultra 3? Or do they need to connect to my iPhone with the same eSIM? If that makes sense

Needs to come from the same network as your phone is on.
I just caught up with all the posts over on EE community, requested a callback from them now to get the add-on put on my watch plan.

EDIT: And done. As soon I mentioned the name of the SOC he knew exactly what to do.

Interestingly I was reading up on this and I got my new watch connected to the watch plan this afternoon as I have got rid of my Ultra 2. Bit of a faff as I had to read the massive long EID off the box. Anyways it doesn’t look like I got 5G on the watch but I’m live in an area that has 5G on my phone. Do I need to get them to add this standalone add on ? Does it cost more at all ?

You need to be in a standalone area, but yes for the watch to access 5G it needs the standalone addon adding if you carried over a previous plan.

There’s no extra cost.

I only found out recently that apple don’t allow you to get emails pushed from gmail on the iOS mail app. You can change it to update more frequently but it’s still quite disappointing .
