Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [3rd - 5th October 2025]

he needs to figure out what to do with Wirtz and Isak because at the moment it doesnt really seem like theres a plan for how to best utilise either of them.
they've hardly played together, but when they do play they are hamstrung by having non-existent wide forwards - Wirtz is also dropping far to deep to pick the ball up. Half the time it feels like hes picking it up in our half.
Kerkez needs to be replaced by Robertson for a proper run in the team,
He ******* doesnt, robbo is done as a starter, been at fault for at least 3 goals (which is impressive considering how much game time hes had..), today and against Newcastle. Its 'cool' to give Kerkez stick right now but he hasn't been at fault for any goals we've conceded in the league (that i remember).
Salah needs dropping for a bit.
yes
Chiesa needs ro be starting
no
and the centre of midfield needs shoring up as Mac Allister isnt on form
he's trying to give Gravy more license to get forward, which is an issue as we're far more open when he's 'allowed' to.

All in all, some issues for Slot to work out during this intl break

Would you stick with Kerkez at LB for now then?

Would you stick with Gakpo on the LW for now instead of Chiesa or would you play someone else on the LW rather than Gakpo currently?

Was not expecting that at all given our recent league form. Good to see Lavia back but yet more injuries but the makeshift defense deserve a lot of credit for seeing the game out.

Yes, the issue with our fullbacks is both sides are very forward foot thinking, playing them both means we are more exposed, coupled with the change to midfield and we're bound to have issues atm- he needs to curb one side or the other.

Ekitike or Wirtz on the left, and I'd be using Rio for more often off the bench

Doesn't solve the salah issue though

I don't disagree about Robertson (although I'm not sure which Newcastle goal he was at fault for?) but Kerkez looks completely lost. Just going off a few instagram posts of his in the summer made me worried he was another Moreno and it's looking to be the case. The guy doesn't have a brain. Even the tiny things like when VVD has the ball at his feet, Kerkez just doesn't know where to be. I've lost count on the amount of times VVD has looked to play the ball outside and Kerkez is stood right next to him and he's had to turn back and pass it to Konate or the keeper. In the first half he goes through one on one and has to shoot but instead makes a pass to absolutely nobody.

Chiesa isn't playing. I don't know why but Slot has a mental block with him. He struggled last season but whenever he's been given a chance he's done well this season and despite how bad Gakpo has been, he's not giving him a look in.

I guess the thinking is/was that the fullbacks will provide us with pace and directness in the wide areas but with that not clicking properly, we look very pedestrian in attack with Salah and Gakpo wide. It's not with hindsight either, I thought it at the time, but we should have given Diaz the new contract he wanted and let Gakpo go.

I guess it would have to be Wirtz, Slot hasnt shown a great amount of desire yet to do a front line with Ekitike on the left and Isak in the centre. Shame we dont still have Elliott or Doak, could have given either of them a bit of a run on the RW instead of Salah.

Meant the bmouth game not newcastle :(
Kerkez is looking lost at the moment as hes not playing his natural game, take his performances for Bournemouth last season and notably the man city game that bmouth won 2-1. Attacking wise its night and day as the play from the left largely comes from gakpo and he's always looking to cut inside, so even when kerkez is overlapping hes ignored. Bmouths build up is/was vastly different to ours, Kerkez was a good 10-20yrds further up the pitch.

I think this is an issue with all the new players, they seem to defer to Salah and look to pass to him when they are in better positions, I've noticed the same with Ekitike and Wirtz.

The obvious change up even last season from Klopp was the game plan is more about control, the trouble with that is there's a fine line between control and just being slow. Whether you thought any or all of them, weren't good enough, the 4 most direct players all left in the summer.

It's an undoubtably talented squad, but it's all very one paced.

Liverpool arent winning the title this year, I'll say that now. 20% through the league season now and we havent played a single good game yet and I'd say its going to be at least another 5 to 7 games before we start playing well, by which time it will be heading toward half way through the season. I think a domestic cup is the best we'll manage trophywise this season (though Palace will probably knock us out of one of those at the end of this month)

Of course you will, it's not like someone else is going to put up 95 points either. You are winning and not playing well and staying in games. A domestic cup would be a massive failure considering last year and this years spending. You have to win the league or CL to be seen as anything other than a failing.

I really don't think it's anything like as bad performance wise as some think and there's no bigger lottery than playing chelsea as to which team turns up.

Who said that? Arsenal did some fantastic smart business.

You deserve that Loss against Liverpool. They were there for the taking.
Arsenal ain't winning **** :p

*runs away*

Even if they do, nobody wants to be remembered as winning the league by scoring from 100000 corners. Perhaps they need to join the NFL?
