Yup. He was a uniquely terrible human but people shouldn't be getting stabbed to death in prison. Don't have to be shedding a tear for him to think this points to problems in the system.

It's not about justice, it's about anger and revenge.

I don't think there are any worse crimes that what he did. Whether he deserves it or not, it was to be expected, and I can't say I care. I'm not about to have a sleepless night over this.

I feel no empathy for him with what has happened, tbh I couldn’t give a ****, but as others have said it shouldn’t be possible in a prison. He should have had life in prison meaning life, I guess he did, but until the end of his natural life. I don’t hold to the belief that prison is a piece of cake in the UK, I guess people who say/think that have never been sentenced to a prison term, but those I have met/known who have been, to a man, did not think it was.

If prison is just punishment for all prisoners, some crimes are deserving of that, then all we’ll ever release is prisoners waiting to reoffend. Yay, no such thing as society.

There is nothing worse than being dead, no longer existing. I don't get the view that suffering in jail is worse than being dead. It could be a forced labour camp and I'd still think death was worse.

The irony here is the convicted presumably himself violent inmate is the one to hand out the death sentence. Should be the state's job.

HMIP will be asking some pointed questions about prisoner management here, particularly as he was attacked before.

I've read similar reports in the past, and they often uncover very poor practice

The screws are often well aware of it. Those doing the killing aren't stupid, they'll threaten the screw's family and all sorts to get blind eyes turned.

Used to really like their music but haven't listened to them since news came out, even threw out my CDs. It's very difficult to separate artist and person when that person is the main vocal point of a band.

I'm surprised he even lasted this long.

When i watched an interview of an ex prison guard the impression I got was they are badly understaffed, its all racial / religious gangs or groups now and people throwing human waste at you

I suspect overcrowding and underfunding are significant factors. The UK's prison system is in an awful state.

Yup it boggles the mind. I’d guess it’s someone with poor impulse control letting a ‘yearning for something’ feeling run rampant on porn-induced ‘forbidden fruit’ fantasies and spiralling waaay off into the deep end.

Ditto, apparently ‘step-whatever’ porn is the most popular genre these days… that depravity being so common place makes me feel a bit ill tbh
