BMW and M Power Owners

Just enabled carplay on my 2017 M140i. Bought a chinese antenna from Amazon for £7 and paid £28 to someone on ebay who sends you a file you run on a laptop whilst it's connected to the OBD on the car. Enables immediately. Also included the BMW 2025 map update for free too.

Thanks, I will keep that in mind when I eventually come to look for a car...big screen is a must, I will remember that.

Does anyone bother with a BMW service plan? Seems like they are nowhere near as competitively priced as the VAG offerings.

Looks like I can save around £100 across the next two services and a brake fluid change, but also pay it monthly, so it might make sense.

I bought it for my M2 when it was on offer. At the time, all you needed was the RIS and the first service and you were better off.
I think that might be the much better priced service inclusive plan? My car did have that but it’s now expired and I’m looking at the ‘BMW Pay Monthly Service Plan’

Yeah they're crap. It's basically just the standard service cost split over the length of the plan. Mercedes ones I've had in the past gave a decent 20-30% discount. Not BMW.

The only saving I could see was that the MOTs were included free.

Unless they're doing a banging black friday deal where I got a 5 year plan for something like £600, I wouldn't bother.

Looks like the services separately (one major, one minor, one brake fluid) would be £1,042 whilst the plan is £936 so I might take it out. It’s the same price for all 3 series regardless of engine so it might be a better saving for an M340i I guess.

Fair play - I think I was over critical in my previous comment. Let's say that they're not as good as other manufacturers. A saving's a saving at the end of the day

Whereas for our Tiguan as an example, it was ~£26 a month when on offer for two years, it includes all services (brake fluid for some reason was always an extra), MOTs, breakdown cover and manufacturer backed warranty.

Yep, my wife has an Audi S1 with a similar plan and it’s much better.

I’m pretty sure I looked at this a while ago and it wasn’t saving anything at all, so it could be that they’ve repriced it.

Oh, you also get a wash and vac with each service (pretty sure you do anyway..), free seasonal health checks and free fluid top ups (assume that’s not the coffee machine while you wait) :D

That seems quite high as an individual price for those services. What year is the car - don't forget that once its out of its original warranty the servicing is cheaper, so if you're getting quotes on a car thats quite new they won't be accurate because they won't include the discount you'll get for the second service.

I had the major service on my M340i and it was about £600, brake fluid is about £115.

My car is a 70 plate. I looked up the services online using my reg and the local dealer (actually cheaper than the next two closest ones). The major service is coming up as £654 (including vehicle check), minor service is £323 and brake fluid change is £65 - all of these showing as ‘discounted’ on the online booking tool (normal price for major service is £803(!)).

Hi guys, I had a funky problem with my 3 series G20 earlier this summer after a windscreen change by Autoglass. Automatic windscreen wipers stopped working, came up with a fault and the car started beeping it's horn twice going over heavy bumps. Had the RAC out to look at it and they found nothing wrong, took it to my local BMW dealership and they couldn't replicate the problem, but they did confirm that the rain sensor was throwing an error and they said the camera had not been recalibrated. I have those faults in writing. A few weeks of inconvience without the car and £200 lighter in the pocket I wrote a complaint e-mail to Autoglass. 2 months later, this morning they replied rejecting any fault on their part saying their system shows it was calibrated correctly when the screen was replaced by them, and as I don't have a bit of paper from BMW saying they replicated the fault being directly because of an incorrect calibration they deny any blame.

I assume rain sensors and camera's don't just uncalibrate themselves?

Bottom line, before I dropped it off at BMW it was blowing the horn everytime i went over a bump at over 50mph + rain sensor not working or going nuts. When I got it back, after BMW just recalibrating the camera and rain sensor = no more horn.

If it's just one of those things i'm happy to let it go, but don't want to have had to pay over £350 for screen (insurance excess) + getting things fixed if they clearly screwed up.

Thoughts?

It looks ok when the clean it i guess, but if you have detailed your car yourself, i would like to know how they are actually cleaning customers cars

are they doing a handwash ? is it a contactless jetwash clean with two bucket microfibre ?

has anyone actually seen them wash behind the scenes?
