Be super interesting to see where Mercedes land in the new era. Sounds like both parties are edging their bets which, as you rightly said doesn’t scream confidence from either side.

So this weekend's race has also been declared a heat hazard. Next year there are plans to make cooling vests mandatory if a race is declared as much, which does seem a tad extreme as I feel it should be up to the drivers themselves.

Safety measures are not usually optional.

I get that but the technology doesn't currently last through the complete race distance and actually ends up pumping hot water around the vest. Plus I would suggest it's purpose is more for the health of the drivers than a safety device and can't be compared to something like the Hans device or the halo.
Max certainly didn't look that uncomfortable at the end of the last race withour a vest, compared to George.who was.

I mean we've had Ocon being sick into his helmet, George collapsing after the race, and a number of other incidents. People being in that kind of condition at 300mph is absolutely a safety issue.

Yes my memory is still good enough to remember that thank you, however that was a one off extreme race and a combination of heat, humidity, the tyre situation introduced by Pirelli . However it still should not be forced on to the drivers.if it isn't working correctly and actually has the reverse effect upon the drivers.

It's not a one off when it has happened more than once, is it? And it's only going to get worse as the world hots up and F1 puts more and more races in rich, hot parts of the world.

Obviously the system needs to work, but that's why they've been given the time to figure it out but drivers can't be trusted to choose whether to use safety equipment or not, just look at what was said before the hans device or halo were introduced.

It was a one off and the FIA just seem to be declaring it now willy nilly.
I quote from the 2023 race: "The conditions in Qatar were something of a perfect storm. The high temperatures were exacerbated when fears over tyre safety caused the FIA to mandate a three-stop race. This meant the drivers pushed to the limit for every lap with no concern on tyre wear." It could be argued that it was the fault of the FIA failing to realise the result of their decisions.
Being sick inside a helmet is not a new thing either https://forums.autosport.com/topic/97175-vomitting-in-f1/
As stated the halo and the hans devices are completely different and worked straight away.
