Arc Raiders

Yep hate, this game. The main trouble is exit campers. Took 2 out, then killed by another one. Everything gone, not my idea of fun and enjoyable.

I've been lucky so far, I generally always get out while every exit is still open and have been lucky enough to pick the quietest one each time, only once did someone try and snipe me as I ran to the exit, clipped me but didnt down me and I still escaped. Cant think of any time yet when I've been killed by an exit camper, I did get killed by one guy as I was pressing the close button on the lift but I think that was more a case that he happened to be running in behind me rather than he was camping the exit, as I say though I almost always extract while every exit is open, so with 3 exits its not often at all that I encounter someone at the exit, especially as I am probably exiting so early that they are still out and about looting themselves :)

I don’t hate the game but the jury is still very much out on it.

Agreed, exit camping is a big problem currently - especially running freebie gear as the limited extracts one can utilise means other ‘scav’ players will know to just hand round those and hoover up solo’s trying to extract.

Will wait for full release reviews and a cheap key before committing I reckon.

Not sure there is much they can do about people getting you as you exit. Only thing I can think of is to have an area around the extract points where you cant be pvped but putting pvp safe areas into a pvp game is a very slippery slope and would probably lose you as many players as it would gain you.

Camping in PvP games has been a thing since the very first PvP game decades ago, nobody has come up with an adequate solution to it yet, whether its someone camping an extract point, or someone camping a quest objective location or someone camping inside the final circle in a BR game or someone camping a spawn point in an online shooter or someone camping on a hillside picking people off with a sniper rifle. I dont think its an issue thats going to be solved to everyones satisfaction in any online shooter any time soon.

How do you use the binoculars? Two games I've managed to exit whilst down. The harvester downed me but didn't kill me and an "exit camper" who downed me but didn't finish me off.

the small number of fixed 'free' extracts is the issue - freebie spawns need to be randomised and more of them, in so far as is possible. but having those 3 (and sometimes not even 3) as the only viable option exacerbates the age old problem of extract camping. maybe adding a hatch key for a specific, random hatch could be an option to the free loadout.

stick them into one of your quick action slots, select them by pressing and holding Q, press mouse to look. job jobbed :D

Played a few rounds now. Don't think the game or extraction shooters are for me, just don't see the point or get the urge to play again. Maybe I'm missing something as not really play a true extraction shooter before. Just feels like you go in, look around for some loot, shoot/hide from some drones, maybe fight another player and get out. Then do it again.
Also maybe I was expecting too much but I though Sparanza or whatever it's called would be somewhere you could walk about and explore rather than just click on the different venders.

yea, it seems quite 'empty' at the minute - but this is just a server load/stress test so i imagine a lot of features and options are missing. game's out in a couple of weeks - even if it doesn't grab you now it might be worth having a look at again after release to see if there's more 'meat on the bones'

The latter idea is good, I often extract via hatches rather than exit points whenever I have a key. However that might make people just stockpile a huge number of hatch keys by repeatedly doing free loadouts and stashing all the keys. Make it too easy to safely extract and it negates a fair chunk of the danger in the game, negate too much danger and what do you have? An extraction shooter game in a genre in which the suspense and apprehension is the key to the genre where you've removed much of the suspense and apprehension. Again, dull the pvp too much and you probably lose as many pvp players as you gain from people who are less pvp inclined.

The way the game is at the moment, they can beat Hunt Showdown, they can beat Tarkov and can be the number one title in the pvpve extraction shooter genre. I hate to use the word due to its negative connotations but pander too much to the people who arent ok with dying and losing gear and they could be shooting themselves in the foot. Much like all the hundreds of threads on Steam with people asking for a PvE only mode, much as with many long since folded MMOs, sometimes listening to the loudest portion of your gamerbase ends up actually being bad for the game.

Might just not be a game for you, I guess though it applies to a lot of genres. In BF and CoD you just go in, look around, shoot/hide from people, then it ends and you do it again. In almost all rogue likes you go in, look around, kill stuff grab loot, then it ends and you go in and do it again. In Borderlands and Diablo style games, you go in, look around, kill things, grab loot and then do it again in the next level. Even spreads into sporting games, like FIFA or F1 games, where you go in, compete in a match/race then it ends and you go in and compete in an almost identical match/race again.

I guess what I'm saying in a needlessly long winded way is that (narrative story games aside) most games are basically just the player repeating the same thing over and over :D

Ah sorry I meant the hatch key would only be for use on that one specific free loadout - vanishes/destroyed on extract - so no stockpiling.

I get the idea behind a pvpve extraction - and love it. Many hours in tarkov and Arena breakout Infinite (tarkov lite) so I know all about dying - especially at or heading to extract :p This game just makes extract camping too easy with the limited free fixed spawns - but this may well be addressed in the full release.

Wish every game launched like this. Feels relatively complete and the performance is great for what you get.

Don’t know whether this will be my cup of tea; had some fun moments but seems a little boring. Probably more to it with the full release. I don’t like the fact that you can’t respawn or easily revive teammates - had a situation where a team jumped and killed 2 on my side but I managed to kill all 3; couldn’t do anything for them so mission was a wash and they left. Maybe I’m missing something.

Yeah that would work if they cant be stockpiled. I'd be ok with that, wouldnt stop someone camping the hatch you happen to go to entirely but would lessen how often it happens.

Did your teammates run out of downed time meaning you couldnt revive them? Or did they get "finished" off by the enemy players. If its the former, you can put skill points in which gives you significantly more downed time, which can gain you enough time to be revived by teammates. You can also get defib kits (consumable) for quicker reviving.

Na they were gunned down and being looted as I got there so I presume at that point it’s over vs when they’re still able to crawl?

I know it mirrors other similar games, and I guess the overall “round” is relatively short, but could be an interesting concept to retrieve dog tags and respawn at some beacon. Probably doesn’t make sense because people would rather leave and start fresh sooner, but if there was an element of gear recovery then it might work.

Will see how the full release goes.

Ah yeah , dead dead is dead :)

Yeah I get that but with games like Battlefield your playing to win the round or win the game or race in the case of FIFA or F1 but in this I don't really see what the object is other than get loot and get out which seems kinda boring.

I've only played 4 rounds and all been solo so maybe that's what's letting it down for me. All I ever see is different variations of the drone type Arcs, again pretty boring. Sound effects are good and pretty atmospheric but you can't really tell where sound is coming from when you here gun fire etc.

I’ll play a few more rounds tomorrow to see if it grabs me then.

Just think of each run in Arc Raiders as a round in BF, you're playing to win the round by escaping. Then its no different to repeatedly doing the same map in BF over and over to win each round/run :)

The TTK being so long makes anything other than the assault rifles kind of useless, I've literally shot unaware people with the single shot rifle multiple times, same goes for the shotgun, right in the back close range to someone facing away from me, they survive the first 2 hits and gun you down. Right now I honestly can't see any point in anything but taking an assault rifle. Made a lot worse because some of the missions force you to do damage to other players with shotguns or heavy ammo, and don't seem to refresh out of your active pool of 3.

I get that people are saying be quiet and pick sneaking abilities and things like that, trouble is that doesn't seem to matter in the slightest, I'd love to know the % of instances where this has actually changed the outcome of a game. It's all luck, sometime you just happen to weave between all teams, and enemies fight each other and come out weak and half dead and you pick them off with a single shot. Other times you get sandwiched between 2 groups, even if you're right on the outskits of the map being careful. The extraction points force you into conflict because there's only 3 free ones and they're either in or right between medium loot zones.

Meanwhile me and 2 friends have literally gone to the center of the map and tried to get into fights by beaming down teams with rifles and heavy ammo and attracted huge amounts of attention to ourselves and done it with zero repercussion.

The only upside was that playing with trios using randoms was actually a better experience that I was expecting (so far) some of the people I played with were mad b*****ds which sprinted straight for the high loot zone, getting into insane fights with the Arc, I just hope premades will be forced to play other premades and there's pvp balance based on loadout value.

They have to make shotguns more deadly at close range, put in more extraction points further around the edge, add in a quick recycle for all things safe to recycle, allow you to refresh your missions if they're crap.
