The most UK thing ever: fined for pouring coffee down a drain

I hear this frequently, but think their coffee is perfectly acceptable, and think their flat white is nicer than Starbucks. I haven't really bought coffee at a shop since I got my ninja luxe, but don't think Costa coffee is terrible by any stretch.
I'm ok with Starbucks. Cant do NERO.
But there is a saying

Going to Costa for Coffee, Is like going to Prison for sex.
Your'e going to get it, But its gonna be rough!

In fairness though its about individuals taste. I dont like the way Italians seems to like burnt Beans. We tried about 20 suppliers when we were setting up the Cafe, But strangely got more compliments about the £6 a bag coffee beans from Bookers at our Spanish restaurant Go figure!!

the real crime is how bad both of those places are at getting a nice microfoam on my flat white, they always blow too much air into it, it should be glossy and velvety, not car wash snow foam

thats the real crime, we need barristers to punish the baristas

this country!!!!
Its a bit of an art. I know if I've not been a the machine in a couple of weeks, then my milk quality is way off. you can lose the feeling for the Tamp too, Which is why some places have an auto Tamp. We had a girl start who if you watched her, she looked like she didn't give a toss. But her coffee and milk and Latte art were absolutely bang on.

Some people can just do it

I've tried over the past year to cut out frivolous spending, and part of that is using coffee shops. If I'm desperate for a takeaway coffee I'll get a cheap one from McDonald's or a freebie Greggs/Nero courtesy of my Octopus account but they are more caffeine delivery tools than a nice drink.

On Wednesday, an email sent from the council at 15:00 BST to Ms Yesilyurt, and seen by the BBC, said: "I can advise that on review the Fixed Penalty Notice has been cancelled.

"Please accept my apologies for any upset or inconvenience this has caused you," it read.

Shame there's nothing about training their workers to apply a bit of common sense when it comes to enforcement

No, I've had to unblock the sink after grounds get mixed with fats etc and caused massive restrictions. I bin mine.

I'd argue that a lone woman being approached by three "enforcement officers" and threatened with a £150 fine for no sane reason is inherently aggressive, I can totally understand why someone might be shaken up by this.

The amount of times I've seen gangs of young men day-drinking (or worse) in the streets and littering while police cruise by as though they don't exist is staggering.

Unfortunately this is extremely tame compared to the sort of thing you'll see on a daily basis in some areas, rather than those three silly 15 year old looking louts (who apparently struggle with shoelaces) in that picture. Probably just daft kids having a sneaky drink in a park somewhere after school, hopefully they grow out of it.

Ugh, I can smell that god awful cider just looking at the picture, utterly nauseating.

Haha, oh I know mate, I'm just jesting ;) the funny thing is, those shoelace inept cretins probably think they're "well 'ard bwuv!"

For me the best part is that there were THREE officers. That means that not one, not two, but THREE fully paid, fully grown, presumably mildly educated adults stood there and between all three of them, not one of them of them thought "we're being a bit thick here aren't we?"

I'm afraid we're not gonna make it as a species folks :(

I don't know if you've ever met any of these "enforcement officers" that wander the streets in the wild, but it'd take at least three of them to change a lightbulb and the results would still be questionable.

They're really not among our best and brightest, yet they're tasked with interpreting laws they clearly don't understand. The fact they equate leftover coffee with dangerous chemicals is bad enough in of itself, but they apparently also don't know where leftover tea or coffee goes when you pour it down the sink at home.

I wonder if there are performance targets for these 'officers'?

Most councils employ a 3rd party company. One of the most prolific and most complained about is Kingdom Services Group

Councils give them the contract and then only take a small fee per fine, less than 20% so I'm told, so that means the enforcement company keeps the 80+%.

The incentive to hand out as many fines as possible is purely financial. These companies always deny targets/bonus schemes but it's all lies.

You walk away from such "officers" they have no power to hold you, if you walk away they give up rather quickly.
They have to call the police to enforce such fines.

They are banking on you being a law abiding citizen to fine you.
Walk away and continue on with your day, they cant do a thing and will leave you alone.

and make sure they don't follow you back to your car else they'll post the fine to you.

I have previously 'poked my nose in' as one of these scumbags put it as 3 of them cornered an elderly lady accusing her of dropping a cigarette butt, despite her insistance that she didn't smoke.

They told me to leave as it didn't concern me, I told them 3 grown men bullying an elderly woman was my concern. They threatened to call police for "breach of the peace" and I told them to go ahead and see how the police felt about the elder abuse they were committing.

They walked away.

KSG have even been in the news regarding their tactics (link below takes you to an article without the cookie paywall)

Forgot about this point, walk away from them into different shops and just continue to walk away.

Preying on women and the elderly go hand in hand for these scum bags.

As earlier posters have said, they wont go near a group of alcoholic's littering their cans and bottles.
