EV general discussion

HK r5 seemed that some uk users were going aftermarket anyway - think the link I followed was pistonheads, (those aftermarket folks are on the ball why can't we go back to DIN)
This is thread is for BEV not ICE :p

My Ioniq is now sporting a nice new charge flap and is all good again. Have to say the garage was fantastic in sorting it out. The flap is actually glued from factory and designed to break off if anyone catches it. It seems that the glue had not set right before so it came off. Tbh I’m a bit scared to touch it lol.

Glad to hear of a positive experience with a dealer, you are the chosen one. Now go and buy a lottery ticket!

Easy, don’t open it and you’ll be fine… :D

Guess who called telling me I have a faulty battery?…

Despite telling them since day 1 to take a look at it :(

Nearly as funny as when the service advisor asked if I’ve tried to get a replacement car from Alphabet - no mate just thought I’d endure having a car that doesn’t blooming work :P

I saw a few people suffering weird electrical faults that were cured by replacing the 12v battery. Chances are you will end up with the EV you were initially impressed with.

Massively common one but don’t think it’ll fix issues with the CarPlay nav - have heard that’s a comms box issue

They said to me that if they don’t personally experience a problem, they can’t claim under warranty for it, even if I provide evidence of the issues.

Kona 2021 update: all fine! Had it since Jan last year, 2 services and 2 MOTs later, recently passed the MOT.

Only issue I had was a few months ago the charging flag at the front wouldn't open most of the time. I think the root cause of that was the servo thing that locks the door wasn't getting enough power from the 12V battery, which was the OEM one and 4 years old. I replaced that and not had that problem since.

I have a car starter pack in the glove box just in case of 12V battery issues which has been a life saver a few times, once the car starts the battery management kicks in and charges the 12V battery like it should have done in the first place.

The other issue is if the boot doesn't close fully and I miss the alert on the app warning me it's open I can get to the car and it's dead due to drained 12V battery. Now I had this again the other day on the new 12V battery but either I simply got there in time or the 12V battery has enough power to last much longer before draining as it as fine that time.

Also here's a video of an old Leaf getting a battery pack upgrade:

Kona update. 142,000 miles driven, OBD derived battery health 96.2%

Battery warranty long gone but 5 year warranty ending in January so it's booked in to sort intermittent reversing camera and sunglasses holder hinge.

As a (2020) Kona owner this is very reassuring! Currently as 58k miles and hope my battery is still in good health. I’ve only rapid charged twice during my ownership, with most charging happening at home with Ohme and via 3-pin at my parents.

Happened to me with Nissan, refused to fix anything without it being covered by a technical bulletin.

Was about to share this video. Really cool how you not only have the OEM upgrade but also aftermarket now. 24kWh to 50kWh.
They do them for my Gen 2 Leaf as well. A 62kWh battery would boost my range to 271 miles but cost over £7k plus shipping and import duty, that's a lot of money and then I would need to find someone up here to do the change. My car is 4 years old now and as part of this years service they did a full health check on the battery and found it still to be 100% so it still performs as it did when new. It may be worth thinking about further down the line though.

17 DC quick charging sessions Vs 1200+ AC 11kw/7kw sessions for me. It's bound to help.
