Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Oh nice. Was your area listed in nexfibre.co.uk’s rollout plan though?
It was indeed, but most of this area (except a few streets near me) already had Virgin/DOCSIS. They only laid XGS-PON where DOCSIS wasn't already present. I tried my best to get info from Nexfibre or Wales and West Utilities, but the guys doing the work were always the best sources of info. I spoke to them when they were near the end of the streets, and the worker said they were hooking it all up to the main network and it would be order ready in 6-8 weeks. 4 weeks later and I was able to order!

Thanks for the info :)

My area isn't listed on nexfibre.co.uk which makes me think it's part of Project Mustang instead. From what I was reading last night, it seems like they're only targeting houses that have never had a Virgin Media subscription, despite being connected to their HFC network.

No problem. Hope it helps.

It's also fuelled by gov funding under project gigabit. Properties are exempt if they have FTTP or other services already, as far as I've interpreted the guidelines.

So many factors to consider when it comes to this stuff, unfortunately! If you see workers in your street, ask questions and you'll get the info you need.

I had 250mbps + weekend calls for £23 then increased to £24.89 earlier this year. I contacted them they offered me £29 i said no and to start my 30days notice to disconnect. 2 days later they phoned me and offered me £23 for the same package but it would increase £4 each april. I asked how much for 125mbps and no phone they said £18 and it increases by £4 each april. I asked for a superhub5 too due to poor wireless on my superhub3 which they are sending me free of charge.

So just just upgraded to 1gig (from 250 package), Netflix included and an upgrade from hub 3 to hub 5.

They were reluctant twice to reduce but both times said I wanted to cancel.

£30 per month not including price rises but then April price rises. This is the deal for new customers.

Wasn't going to get it cheaper that that unless I was an o2 customer. Don't have o2 contract so just bit the bullet. So I can now cancel my Netflix once this all goes through.

Equipment delivered in couple days and I have to get my other kit sent back.

Looks like they are doing £27.99 a month for m500,(gig1 with volt) including netflix. Makes the offer of £36 they gave me look pretty bad.

Messaged them on whatsapp to see if they will give me this deal - Currently on day 7 of 30 day notice.

Did you get your deal? I did !

The Whatsapp number (077803 089684 ?) just tells me to go to the "My package" section on the website to review my services.
There it only offers me to renew @ £42.94 a month.
I've tried the chat and the agent can't offer anything better either.
Looks like retentions and cancellation will still be the way.

Go to retentions.

I've just had gig Internet installed today, great guys and all went very smoothly.
Great news!

A few houses further up my street have had their ETBs installed already. Once again, fingers crossed they can reuse the OR duct that goes from the street to my house for the fibre cable as they seem to have done for those.

I'll update this thread with how the install goes on Wednesday.

Yeah, literally just finished setting up all my devices. It's great. I'd got lazy and just kept BT broadband and TNT, Discovery, etc. A bit ago I switched off the BT router and have now transferred everything over. Used to get 65Mbps on the old connection, getting 950Mbps now. Very nice.

Added bonus being after sacking off BT and a couple of other unnecessary subscriptions, I have massively faster Internet and 135 quid more in my wallet each month. Winner.

I didnt get the deal no, only spoke to them through online chat, and they outright refused.

Did you call them?

My 30 days notice is quickly coming up and soon to be without internet by the look of it!

was expecting a phone call, but so far nothing.

My service went live today. They dug an angled trench and tucked the fibre under the soil, then ran it across the house wall into my comms cupboard. A clean and tidy job.

Quick speed test over WiFi netted 900Mb first go and then 660Mb second go. I need to switch over to the Virgin setup properly and that's this evening's job as my FTTC service is dying at 1:00!

Switched over to the Virgin setup and my cat6 wiring. All is well! I'm using a 1Gb switch at the moment and that is my current bottleneck. Time to pick up a 2.5Gb or a 10Gb to reap that extra 100Mb. :D

I think I would take this deal if they offered it to me. It wouldn’t be great to have 25% of the bandwidth I have now, but at least the early termination cost will be cheaper if Openreach pull their finger out in our area.

Was meant to be getting my services moved and installed to my new house on August 6th and it got moved to the 30th, as I posted a few days ago. They've only today hit me with a new install date of October 18th which is insane - 73 days later than they originally told me. As of now they should owe me about £150 in compensation and if they do go ahead with October 18th it'll be about £455. Insane. I'd rather they just told me they can't deliver a service to my address than fob me off with this madness.

Finally, it looks like Virgin have managed to get a contractor to arrange the connection point outside my house on Monday/Tuesday according to roadworks.org and BIDB. We've had £85 put on the account as an apology and to cover mobile data use and there should be further compensation on top too.

By the time Tuesday comes around it'll be at 83 days, plus another week or so maybe for them to get a VM engineer to do the actual connection and it's likely to be around 90 days. According to the Ofcom automatic compensation I should be due £6.24 for every day since original missed service date so that's about £560, on top of the £85 credit they've put on my account. Surely I'm not really going to end up with £645 out of this?

Just did the usual 18 month contract renewal and got my 1gig, anytime chatter and tv package with an extra tv box and 3 extenders for £42. Didn't even need to threaten to cancel and go through that song and dance again.

This time it's a 24 month contract so it'll be a while longer before doing again, quite happy as last time they couldn't do better than £65 and retentions did it for £49 so this time it's even cheaper.

Mental isn't it, despite inflation and their annual price rise to customers, you often end up paying less when negotiating a new contract.

Looks like its been around for a good few months already, can't see any other info on it.
Yeah I couldn't see much of anything other than a move to https also interesting to see a slightly better ping to the Modem through my network to the tune of 2ms although it seems slightly erratic maybe.
Also see some noise about firmware roll out and some backtracking over the last few months as you say.
