It's not though ; will be less expensive and more customisable ( than a Xbox branded pre-built ). Don't let your emotions / old habits get in the way of common sense.Your idea seems worse to me. Build a custom pc and install Linux. You've already lost a majority of the customers

No idea why they haven't idiot proofed Linux, or at the very least made an easy install for just gamers?!?Avg Joe or kid won’t be able to install Linux.
I mean it pretty much is idiot proof if you stick with the defaults. With the possible exception of Nvidia but that is their fault not the fault of Linux. No idea why they haven't idiot proofed Linux, or at the very least made an easy install for just gamers?!?
Which 80m do you speak of ? If you mean console players, the majority won't buy a £1000+ "hybrid" device from Xbox, they'll just switch to another console ie. Playstation or build PCs.But it's nothing to do with me. It's to do with the other 80m users
Sure, but who said it'd be £1000+? If the next xbox is that price, PlayStation won't be much different.Which 80m do you speak of ? If you mean console players, the majority won't buy a £1000+ "hybrid" device from Xbox, they'll just switch to another console ie. Playstation or build PCs.

Their current "hybrid" device ( ROG Xbox Ally X ) is already £1000. For that amount of money parents will more likely buy their kids a laptop for productivity & gaming.Sure, but who said it'd be £1000+? If the next xbox is that price, PlayStation won't be much different.
yep so they need to sort that out as currently the marketing or direction isn't matching anything that people really want.Their current "hybrid" device ( ROG Xbox Ally X ) is already £1000. For that amount of money parents will more likely buy their kids a laptop for productivity & gaming.
Another issue is repairability. If it turns out the price is £1100, and has zero repairability because of proprietary parts it would be another reason i would go a full-fledged PC over the Xbox. Or go with PS5 which will probably be fair cheaper, if they keep the traditional subsidised model. The issue for them is this is not am overnight concept but a historical fact in console history that consoles are something that is accessible for all, not the few.
Then on the other side of the coin, the challenge for them is they are now having to compete with PC gaming. I know the numbers say PC gaming is growing, and there are a lot of people throwing money at big graphic cards that are 3x the price of a PS5. The issue they face it is a PC. So you are now telling people, sending a message that your "console" is also a PC. Sounds a bit like they tried to tell people their console is also an all-in-1 entertainment box for the TV.....we know how that mixed messaging went last time.
And where would I connect this new luxury box? If I connect it to my TV, the chances of me using the PC side of thing is almost zero. I want to use a joypad sitting on my sofa, not pull up a fold up table for a keyboard and mouse.
If I hook this up to a monitor, then it will be like a PC...and then why don't I just get a PC (pay a little more even) for it to be more modular with more upgrade paths? Why lock myself in without the subsidies of a console?
And as for better graphic, I think the for the past few years, a PS5 and current XBSX offers comparable graphics to any of the PC gaming. Any difference I can personally live with, so at least for me. Would I have £1000 "console" that doesn't know what it is or meant to be. or would I want a PS5 and a Mac mini for the same money?
I would choose the latter every time.
p.s. I paid £400 for my PS5 at launch and only £500 for my Mac Mini.

i guess, if they go down this route, they really need to hammer the idea that it's a console, but for kids who have everything in one bedroom, it's a console and pc, so great for homework etc. i can 100% see a market for that sort of device. buying a console for a child may be something parents don't wish to do, but buying a pc for a kid to do home work which happens to beable to play games is something i can see parents getting sold on.
the issue is they can't have a ridiculous price, unless there are multiple versions of the next xbox, similiar to the series s and series x
But they can do that now by buying a desktop PC or laptop. What's so unique and enticing about an Xbox branded equivalent ?but buying a pc for a kid to do home work which happens to beable to play games is something i can see parents getting sold on
