Carabao Cup 4th Round Football Thread ** spoilers ** [28th - 29th October 2025]

No because as I said, its not black and white, its not "concentrate", not sure why people keep jumping to "concentrate". I never said the Carabao cup should be the only one we try for this season, what I am saying is dont just throw the cup away, which is what this team selection was.

To quote Baz "I'm not sure a manager ever picks a side to lose but this selection was pretty much as close as you could get" - what I am saying is dont pick a side to lose.
Klopp would often pick a side chock full of youngsters all the way until we got knocked out (he would often only bin off those youngster if we got to the final), I don't remember people moaning quite so much, but i suppose its the issue people have with Slot in that he isn't Klopp so certain people cant wait to get the knives out

surely the criticism is more the fact liverpool desperately need a win from somewhere and this was an opportunity to get one?

The issue isn't that, it's that we've been on a terrible run going into this game.

Often though he would do that whilst we were actually playing well elsewhere/on good runs in other comps. I dont see how yet another spineless defeat today, helps to promote positivity amongst the team, imo this result just perpetuates the negativity amongst the team. Now, if by picking this team we go and beat Villa at the weekend, then sure, its then proven to be a wise choice perhaps, but if we lose again at the weekend then what have we gained from today?

Spurs make dishwater look exciting. I haven't watched them a huge amount this season but whenever I have they have been crap. They've been effective when it comes to winning games but my word have they been an awful watch.

Yeh think I enjoyed the Wrexham Cardiff game more yesterday tbh

He would always pick kids in the carabao (and fa cup to a lesser degree) regardless of our form in the league, we had plenty of times where our league form wasn't great going into a cup competition and I don't ever recall people hoping we'd go full strength, it was largely the opposite. But all of a sudden some people want us to play our strongest lineup

Dont think , I might be wrong without checking, anyone was saying we should pick our "strongest" lineup, just that we shouldnt be picking a team almost designed to lose.

there was 5 '1st team players' in the match day squad, who do you think could have changed the result given we've already lost to palace twice this season?

If it was me , and to be clear I am not a premier league manager, I'm only another forum armchair football coach. I'd have played this 11

Woodman (though I'd have been tempted to see what Pecsi offers)

Gomez, Konate, Williams, Robertson

Endo Mac Allister

Wirtz

Gakpo Danns Salah

Then I would have substituted out for the likes of Ngumoha, Chiesa, Kerkez, Chambers, maybe even Bajcetic ONCE we had the lead and able to play from a position of strength rather than behind. I wouldnt have started with Kerkez and Ramsey in defence , Nyoni and Morrison in midfield and Chiesa up front

The problem is and always will be Slot. Again similar to Tombstone above, I am not a prem manager, only a fan. I saw this downward spiral start at the end of last season. Once the league was all but certain, Slot started to change things and turn the team away from Klopp's style of play and introduce his own (whatever style that this) and you could see the cluelessness then

Lost 1-3 to Chelsea, draw 2-2 with Arsenal, lost 2-3 to Brighton and draw 1-1 to Palace.

Liverpool got lucky in the first 5 games with late goals but now the cluelessness is fully out in the open for all to see. He also brought in Giovanni Bronkhorst into his coaching staff who I don't rate at all.

Personally (not to offend anyone) I see Liverpool losing to Aston Villa, RM and Man City. Slot will be gone by Jan IMO at the latest.
